Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

Good song. I remember when it was played over a scene in Miami Vice, got to be almost 40 years ago now. See who you can recognize!

I recognize. this is one of my fav shows. I was living in Miami Beach during the filming of this series. We had a 9 story hotel building on the beach at the time that I was restoring/ renovating just outside of the Art Deco district. On the rooftop one day we watched as they filmed a scene on a street corner just one building over from us. I had installed a restaurant in our building. Some time after I left, Phillip Michael Thomas arranged to film an episode in the restaurant.

Umm. Yeah it’s a no for me with this one.
I don’t know what this is. I just can’t…… yeah. No.
But I like Country and Billy Ray Cyrus!
And many other's
So it's a yes for me... Checkmate!

Oh I am ok with Country. I have Country songs sprinkled into several playlists.
But that particular song (and artist) for me…

I remember the first time I heard it I was actually watching the video back in the 90s.
I just remember feeling like……like I had just watched a car salesman hard at work.

Again, just me. I often have opinions that don’t align with popular thought. Lol.

I thought we would have to duke it out 😂😂😂

Three Dog Night - Liar

This was the follow-up single to Joy to the World; not as big of a hit but still top 10. And the only time I ever hear it anymore is when I play it either off of CD or on Youtube. Just got inspired to play it again.

You don't see the rock and roll in the song? It was a hot #1 best seller and had the essence of revisiting the earlier rock and roll era after, IMO, hard rock ruined music.

I can envision Elvis doing Achy Breaky Heart back in the 60s...and I think Elvis may have been an influence on Cyrus in a fatherly way. LOL

I love that album! I even got Floyd Sneed to sign my CD for me when I got to do a few gigs with him. Super nice guy!

Example of Led Zeppelin influence.
Exhibit B.

Exhibit C?

Greta Van Fleet - Highway Tune

I was so impressed with these kids when I first heard them, and this song is excellent. But when I read an interview with the singer who totally blew off his "singing like Robert Plant" that really make me think he's a piece of crap. Sure can sing though... even if he doesn't give credit to clearly his biggest influence.

If I remember right, the guitar player is his brother, who has no problem saying Jimmy Page was a huge influence.

I think country did sort of become what mainstream rock and roll once was… but this song is a little hard to take. Not saying I hate it, not at all. Just don’t care really.

Example 1…

Joe Diffie - Third Rock From The Sun

wait wait wait… Exhibit A…. 🤣🥰🥰
