Interesting, I've been to quite a few nudist or clothing optional beaches in Mainland Europe and the UK, in my experience there has been little overt sexual activity in plain sight. Several beaches have sand dunes or other places of concealment behind them where people can meet up or watch though.

I fully agree I really would be surprised if there was places in Europe and UK that allowed sexual activity, yes there always be some playful activity but I'd expect it to be careful in moderation. Their advice was don't worry too much but it showed decorum that I covered up, in their view an occasional erection was to be expected just don't obviously indulge in sexual activity (like stroking yourself) and no one would worry.
