Please can anybody tell me what the rules are regarding quoting poetry in a story? I wish to use a single line, Thanks

It’s allowed. My lead character quotes poetry excessively while losing her virginity in Passion Ch. 1. No issues. (If you’re curious she’s a religious slut in progress, so she quoted The Second Coming by Yeats and Tyger Tyger by William Blake.)

Thank you very much. I shall read your story over the weekend

Thx. Further advice- credit your inspiration like I did at the end. Or you can drop that if the line seems well known enough to you. I also would appreciate your feedback even on an old work. And if you know anyone into Pathfinder WotR femslash and/or Paladin on redeemed demon action willing to beta read a story let me know please.

If the poem is in the public domain (published before 1923 in most cases) or the use falls under fair use guidelines, you might be able to quote a single line without obtaining permission. However, fair use is a complex legal concept, and it's advised to consult legal experts if you're unsure. A single line is fine on Literotica, especially if you credit it, either in the text or as an end note.

pijamarilska's comment is well intentioned, but they clearly don't know what the site does or doesn't allow. This question comes up often, and many many writers will say what the site allows, because their stories have quoted poetry, song lyrics, and a sentence or two from a book, where the quote is still in copyright.
