I had never heard of Form FD-1023 prior to this investigation. Thanks to the persistent work by Grassley and Comer, the public knows about it now despite strong resistance and objections by the FBI.

Everything you said above is true. The real and more pertinent question is: Why? Because it was an UNSUBSTANTIATED and UNVERIFIABLE allegation. The FBI did not want that released because of exactly what has happened: those unsubstantiated and unverifiable allegations blown into "facts". Shades of Joe McCarthy.

The FBI has said numerous times that it was investigated and nothing of consequence was found, yet those who demanded to see the form have since claimed it as the smoking gun, proof that Joe and son were doing nefarious things when in actuality there is no proof they were.

It seems to me if the committee wanted to get to the bottom of it and learn the truth they wouldn't be concentrating on the 1023. Instead, they would be asking this question: What did you find during your investigation into these allegations and how did you go about the investigation? They would also be demanding to see the documents about the investigation. Doing so would show (or not) that the FBI ignored real evidence to protect the Biden's. But it also might ( and I will argue would) prove the committee was blowing hot air because it had been investigated with nothing found.

However, that wouldn't play into their need for political theater now would it? Much better to take an accusation and blow it into a "fact". It appears many of our congress critters need to learn critical thinking and quit being such drama addicts.

They whistleblowers are investigators. It's their job to examine evidence and see if there's anything in it to lead them to more clues and evidence. For them to say "I was led to believe..." and "It appeared to me..." is them articulating their mental processes. To try and use how they were thinking in order to say the actual evidence which they were examining never existed is nothing short of ridiculous.

ALL of us have done dumb things. For your closest friends to say "you know, I thought when you did that..." when discussing some of the dumb things you did doesn't make those dumb things disappear and not exist. Biden threatened to withhold payment to Ukraine on behalf of the U.S. because we, as part of a broader International effort wanted Ukrainian president Poroshenko to fire prosecutor Shokin because he was corrupt and he wasn't doing anything to root out corruption in Ukraine including at Burisma.

Trump, also threatened to withhold money because he wanted Ukraine to investigate his domestic political enemies not for the benefit of the US, but for his own benefit.

Yes, it contains unproven allegations. Nobody is claiming otherwise. The congressional committees are seeking answers such as why IRS investigators were denied access to the form. Why is the White House claiming the allegations in the form have been debunked while the FBI has told Grassley that the form is part of an ongoing investigation?

Of all the articles I've read (dozens from various sites) NO WHERE has the claim been made that the FBI says the form is part of an ongoing investigation. If you know where that quote is please link me to it or I'm going to have to call it bullshit.

My question is: Why did Grassley release the document to the public? It isn't proof of anything other than an unsubstantiated claim of wrongdoing that has already been investigated. So why release it? According to Grassley, it was so the public can read it for themselves, and at the same time out of the other side of his mouth stating that he is sure it is "credible". The ONLY reason to release it is because they have NOTHING else, no real proof and need a dog whistle to keep the constituents stirred up. Political theater at its best. Call me when they have some REAL proof of nefarious goings on by Joe and son and I'll grab my pitchfork and join you.

This raises some questions. Especially since the FD1023 form is a form which memorializes information given to the FBI from informants.

So:

1. If as you say the FBI has the form and the information in it, WHY didn't they investigate the claims of criminal conduct? Or, alternatively, what were the results of that investigation if it's no longer "ongoing"?

2. Then there's this:

The allegations of wrongdoing by the then-vice president, many originating from sources in Ukraine, were dubious enough that former Attorney General William Barr in early 2020 directed they be investigated by a US attorney in Pittsburgh, in part because Barr was concerned that Giuliani’s document tranche could taint the ongoing Hunter Biden investigation overseen by the Delaware US attorney.
