Televangelist Pat Robertson came out of retirement on Monday to declare that Russian President Vladimir Putin is following God’s wishes by violently invading Ukraine, insisting this is a step towards a global “End Times” battle in Israel. The 91-year-old evangelical, who stepped down as host of The 700 Club last fall, returned on Monday to discuss the Ukraine crisis as only he can: “People say that Putin’s out of his mind. Yes, maybe so. But at the same time, he’s being compelled by God. He went into the Ukraine but that wasn’t his goal. His goal was to move against Israel, ultimately.” Claiming that Ukraine is merely a “staging area” for one of the great Biblical armies that will gather for Armageddon in Israel, he later told viewers to “read your Bible” because “it’s coming to pass.” This is far from the first time that Robertson has warned that the end of the world is nigh. He has predicted that “there is going to be a judgment on the world” in 1982, the Pacific Northwest would be devastated by a tsunami in 2006, “mass killings”would be unleashed in America in 2007, and an asteroid would destroy the earth after President Donald Trump won re-election in 2020. None of those ever came to pass.

Robertson's Business is to get folks to think the apocalypse is here now, so hand over your money to him, since you can't take it with you, and repent your sins to get into heaven....which he can help you with for a fee.

The redeeming thought is the knowledge that Robertson can't take it with him either and he doesn't have much longer to wait to face his creator.
 
Pat's reasoning is no loopier than that of the green herd, who insists every cat up a tree is the fault of climate chane.
 
Pat is among the many reasons why I am no longer a Christian. I wish I could tell him that to his face.

where have we heard 'couldn't possibly have seen that coming' before? the fact is, LOTS of people were actively warning about EXACTLY this–how putin was going to invade Ukraine–while carlson was busy trying to call it all a scam as per.

right? carlson posturing he understands the wrongfulness of the invasion (maybe has been 'made' to understand by fox or simply because he's not seeing his message get across as strongly as hannity's) but trying to blame President Biden and Vice President Harris for his own behaviour

After backpedaling on his Russia-Ukraine conflict stance, he pivoted the blame to Democrats, going on to say that his failure to take the situation seriously was due to Harris' attendance at the Munich Security Conference in February."Well, because we assumed that if things were dire, serious people would be involved in fixing them. But we looked up and we saw Kamala Harris involved, and that reassured us," Carlson said. "Harris had just come back from Europe where she'd been conducting quote, 'diplomacy' with our allies, and that appeared to be proof this could not really be a big deal."

"If the situation in Ukraine had been legitimately serious, if the future of Europe and the world hung in the balance as now so obviously it does, of course the Biden administration would not have sent Kamala Harris to fix it, because that's not her job," he continued. "Kamala Harris' job is to trot down to the Blue Room periodically to greet delegations of TikTok influencers or to cut occasional PSAs for Children's Dental Health Awareness Month, which is in February, so we assumed she'd be working on that right now.

But none of them ever portended the Rapture.
 
What's interesting about this kind of thing is how rare it has become. A declining number of American Christians think in End Times terms like Robertson. The Religious Right is fading away. The only issue it has left that still has any political salience is abortion -- and that one, only because for once they have the Catholic Church on their side.
 
It does become increasingly hard to believe in an End Time that was supposed to happen while those alive in Jesus's day were still alive.

I'm talking about something else here, but your wording reminded me:

Have you seen the pro-Putin protests in Serbia?
And the Indian genocide-excusing political analysts and laypeople comments on youtube.

Those are countries that benefit from friendship with Russia
(Russia liberated Serbs from the Otomans, and helped them during covid, while UAE turned their back on them & American dropped bombs on Serbia)
India fears China and wants an ally in Russia)
and most protestors were fringe idiots.

But they aren't the only ones.
There are similar fringe groups in other Eastern Europe states too, they think that Russians will reverse the balance of power, and get rid of the shitty croney neoliberal system we're all in.
i can only imagine in Middle East.....

It's scary how they gloss over the Holocaust happening now in Ukraine.
