"WASHINGTON, June 3 (Reuters) - A federal judge has ruled that Tennessee's law restricting drag performances in public or where children were present was unconstitutional, striking a blow to efforts in U.S. states to regulate LGBTQ conduct.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee in February had signed the bill passed by the state's assembly that aimed to restrict drag performances, putting the state at the forefront of a Republican-led effort to limit drag in at least 15 states in recent months."

He's a Tr*mp appointed judge, too.

Regardless of how you feel about drag performances, people's first amendment rights deserve protection. I mean you have half-naked cheerleaders gyrating during sports games filled with young children, the hypocrisy of it all. Drag is pure camp and fun, there is nothing sexual about drag, it just makes these rightists uncomfy to see men dolled up in makeup and wigs. The last time I checked drag queens are not molesting children like pastors in church, but that's another conversation speaking of grooming.

Now tackle the shenanigans going on in DeSatan's land.

Drag has no appeal for me, but I think it's silly and anti-American to go after it as the Red states now are doing. I wouldn't take my minor child to a storybook reading session by a drag queen, though.

Now, where drag starts to be sexual fetish, I can see the appeal.

It will be appealed and, based on precedent, the judge will be overturned.

The 1st Amendment can be restricted as to who can access the content. This has been the law since porn mags were a thing and the law required that porn be kept away from children. Drag is no different.

They’re not remotely the same. You can go back 60 years and there was drag on TV.

^^^ How many carnival sideshows and midways at county and state fairs had Bearded Ladies?

A federal judge found the definition so “vague and substantially overbroad” that he declared the law unconstitutional in June. However, Desmond and other local attorneys general argued that the judge’s ruling only applied to Shelby County, where the lawsuit was filed, rather than other counties.

District attorney's threat to drag performers doubles attendance of Pride event

Blount County District Attorney Ryan Desmond issued a letter last Tuesday notifying Pride organizers and local law enforcement that his office planned to “ethically and justly prosecute” anyone violating Tennessee’s drag ban, also known as the Adult Entertainment Act.
the organisers and headlining performer went on to file a lawsuit against desmond, calling his threat "a blatant attend to chill Plaintiff’s speech and expression under the First Amendment.”
On Friday, U.S. District Judge Ronnie Greer agreed with the lawsuit and issued a temporary restraining order to prevent Desmond from interfering in any way with the Saturday Pride event or its related third-party celebrations.
seems a lot of people took offense at desmond's threat, and turned up in support of PRIDE events and the legal rights of drag queens who are not prepared to go back into the closet just to please the sensibilities of the magats :)

WAIT............. you mean we can't ban THIS
I apologize to your eyes and ears.
AND your soul.
These are the guys who were in charge of the Right Wing Morals.
REALLY??

how many of those frothing at the mouth 'loved' the movie Mrs. Doubtfire? How many giggle along with the Madea movies? thought Barry Humphries was brilliantly funny as Dame Edna? or are they now so conflicted they can't watch them any more?

i never was a fan of seeing guys dress as women in order to really have people laugh at them because it was seen more as a mocking of women. i think Mrs. Doubtfire's character (Robin Williams) wasn't intended as a mockery of women, but i'd guess a lot of the men watching it didn't see it that way. Dame Edna? loved the character :) the Madea movies... nah

Drag is an integral part of Pantomime, which is performed in just about every UK theatre during the winter. School parties fill the auditoria and it would be difficult to find any Briton who hasn't seen at least one such performance. As far as I know, there are still a few cis males & females in the UK.

But what came first, Trans or Drag?
