The legislation was meant to be vetoed. They didn't pass it with any serious motive other than to start negotiating and provide campaign fodder for 2024.
So the MEETING that President Biden said he would be HAPPY to have with Weaker mccarthy is going to take place??? The MEETING that President Biden said would not include negotiating over raising the debt ceiling???

As soon as Congress passes the debt ceiling cleanly, they can begin talking about concessions and negotiate a true budget.

So let me ask: Are you comfortable with this bill screwing veterans so they can use this bill as a political ploy to curry favor with the voters and as a device to play brinksmanship with the economy to win at the negotiating table? And please don't try the, "They didn't specifically target veterans in the bill" hogwash. While they did not specifically target veterans, what they did do was put in the bill a 22% cut in discretionary spending WITHOUT specifying ANY protected programs. They declared they would "address the veterans later". That is unlikely to happen given the history of such promises being honored in Congress. I don't trust ANY politician of ANY party when they use a term like that in a situation like this.
Once passed, the budget office can't pick and choose which program to cut. If they did the first whine out of the Republican's mouths would be they are "targeting" particular programs. So they MUST do an across-the-board cut to ALL programs covered under the bill. Since all veterans programs are discretionary it means they will be cut by 22%.
Again, are you comfortable with screwing the men and women that went to war for us? Because it is in this bill and it WILL happen no matter what kind of
mealy-mouthed reassurances are spouted by those touting this bill. Trust a scorpion not to sting rather than a politician not to lie.

The House has passed a bill raising the debt ceiling. We now need the Senate to pass a bill but majority leader Schumer has done nothing. He seems to forget that his party won the majority last year.

He hasn’t done so yet and he’s burning daylight. Let’s hope he gets his shit together quickly and finds the 59 or 60 votes needed to pass a bill.

Debt limit bills require a simple majority to pass, not "59 to 60 votes". Let's hope 'n pray Senator Feinstein is well enough to vote this month.

Nope, reconciliation doesn’t apply. I suppose he could try the nuclear option. But even then, Machin, Tester and Sinema are no sure thing. He hasn’t scheduled a vote on the “clean” bill because the votes are not there. Schumer is in a box and the clock is running.

It may be DOA but house pubs aren’t going to budge. The house bill is a reasonable bill.
If pubs in the Senate have a majority with Feinstein amongst the sick, lame and lazy, Manchin pissed at Biden and Sienna unhappy with Biden’s border policy it could get very interesting.
