Invited my lover to meet me at the movie theatre for 50 Shades of Gray over a lunch time (early and late). As we both came from our work, it was no surprise she was dressed up in a conservative skirt and blouse, but with her always fashionable stilettos and accented tights.

As the movie gets going, I whisper to her that she is going to have to be a good girl and be quiet and I reach my hand between her legs. I caress from knee to thigh to her now damp warm crotch. As I massage her through the nylon material over the next 10-15 mins she is becoming more and more aroused. I pull away to her slight disappointing whimper.

As I move my hand back, it slides inside her tights to feel the wetness and arousal. I whisper to her...you will not come until I approve. She nods. And I asked her if she thinks the couple a few rows back is doing the same or watching her be fingered . She breathes more erratically as she looks at me with pleading eyes. I whisper you may climax...but do not make a sound.

The guy behind you two leans forward and suggests you save that for home?
Or he offers to jump in?
Or your girl reaches over, grabs your balls thru your pants, and tells you it’s her turn to be the Domme
Or the security hired due to the titillating movie bringing out the financial risks to the theater throw you out
Or, as your fingers slip in, you hear a ‘pop’ and she deflates like a balloon - Monty Python for the giggles

Tons of options, it’s your story, you get to tell us how it goes!

The guy knows that his girl is a screamer, so he only takes her to movies that he knows well, and he can time her orgasms for when the movie will drown out her caterwauling. Maybe "When Harry Met Sally" would be a good choice?

Worth mentioning that i will have a short (6,700 words) Fifty Shades of Grey parody out soon (i'm not sure "parody" is the right word, but it is a comedy).

Movie theaters and drive-ins? I've done several of those. For this thing, try setting it in a real movie theater you know, one with something distinctive about it. Where is it? (Which city or town, for example?)

This would have to be an extremely loud movie to cover the sound of a woman having a noisy orgasm. He already said it's Fifty Shades of Grey, which I don't think is that loud. Pearl Harbor, maybe?

Synch her noisy orgasms with the movie’s soundtrack?

Like in Pearl Harbor when the Arizona blows up? Anyway, good luck with that. Let's face it, no matter what you do, the woman is going to control (or simply have) her orgasms on her schedule, not yours.

Generally true, for sure! But there are ways to help or withhold pleasure. And of course, stifle. I think the periodic moan or light squeal might garner some attention. Will have to run with that.

It also depends on how crowded the theater is. I had several stories set in this 4,000 seat theater (a real place) and during the 1970's there would be maybe fifteen people in there for an afternoon showing. Of course, the economics didn't work, and it was twinned, then became a triplex and finally a quad before it closed. So are you actually going to write this thing? "Run with it" sounds like you are.

I am going to for sure. Will share when it's complete

Fifty Shades of Grey (the original one) was released in 2015. Unless it's a revival, that gives you the time period. And, having written quite a few of these things, I know that can be an important fact to keep in mind.

I'm curious, why is that important to keep in mind? Not trying to be argumentative here, I just don't see what you're getting at. Thanks!

I suspect - verisimilitude. Talking about cell phones in a 1980s setting can be jarring, or COVID before 2019ish...

Because it may not seem obvious at first, but what is going on around the couple (if it's in the New York of 1912 or Virginia of the 21st Century - I've done, or will do, both of those) is going to have an impact on what the couple is doing and thinking. Even if the initial choice is mostly random (I've done that too), things will emerge, almost unintentionally, that will be useful in writing it.

Like in the most recent movie theater stories I did (the two about Miranda Grossman), the schools they went to, the neighborhoods they are from, their ethnic identities, are all important in how their relationship (which starts quite abruptly) develops. Even the appearance of the theater, the movie that is on-screen (1977's Kentucky Fried Movie), the job the guy has (he is an usher at the theater), the songs she initially sings to tease him (or seduce him, as she decides to do) are part of how the whole event takes place.

The are not just banging each other - they are doing it in a specific time and place

As I just said above, cell phones and COVID are the least of it. Everything going on is potentially important. The writer has to pick which to include and which to leave out.

COVID hit the United States in the spring - March - of 2020.

Thanks for the explanation! It didn't immediately make sense to me (before you explained it) because that is exactly what I try NOT to do in my stories. I try to make them as timeless as possible, so that they can seem current and up to date whenever they are read. Yes, the world is constantly changing. But parts of it stay the same. I suppose an author can choose to focus on either types of details, depending on his intent.

Yeah, obviously I have a different way of doing it. (Maybe because I was a history major years ago?) Probably the basic sex acts (there are only so many, if you counted them) are timeless in that humans have been doing them the same way since pre-history. If you read The Naked Ape, which I found somewhat dubious, supposedly we transitioned from the rear-entry position favored by other primates to the front-entry position favored by humans. The author is clueless about a lot of things, like he completely misunderstands BDSM (odd for an Englishman!).

So anyway, that's pretty basic but I find it kind of dull. To me, the interesting thing is the variables, people's attitudes, which has swung back and forth between licentiousness and prudery over time, although I think it the latter periods people mostly faked it and just didn't talk about it as much.

If you think about it, what you call "timeless" is really a specific time period and place, probably the United States and Europe in the last thirty years of so. That's hardly universal. Movie theaters didn't even exist until the early 20th Century, and there are probably many places in the world that still don't have them. In any case, they are slowly being cut back by the aftereffects of the pandemic, streaming services, and so forth. I've had scenes in drive-in theaters, which not long ago might have been a sexual rite of passage for many people. Since those are mostly gone, I set them in a slightly earlier eras. Sex in automobiles at all was considered a loosening of morals in general by the 1920's. Esther Smith couldn't have sex in that trolley car. (Meet Me in St. Louis, remember?)

why couldn't she have sex in the trolley car?
Well, in one of my earlier Geek Pride stories, they almost do - but it's parked in a museum for these vehicles. They decide to go to dinner first and then find someplace more comfortable. In another story on another site. the couple do it in a subway car - which is parked in a yard at night. The third rails are a danger of course.

For most transit situations, it's necessary to find a vehicle that is out of service somewhere - for obvious privacy reasons. Yes, I know, Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay in Risky Business. But it's completely unrealistic. Those two riding the el on the South Side of Chicago in the middle of the night - do you find that plausible?

a crowded car, or empty car late at night, work too

I've seen the crowded car trope used here, but it's not very likely. I think guys have used "frottage" in real life. Full intercourse; very doubtful.

An empty car late at night, if it's in service? Only if you really fast, like no more then ten minutes maybe. You have to worry about the crew, the cops, and other passengers; some of that last group are not people you would want to deal with. Besides, New York is one of the few cities to operate 24-hour per day service; most cities close by 1.00 AM. I think there was a case in New York where a couple tried it between the cars, but they got caught.

I know Story Ideas is not a stronghold of plausibility.
