"On the Job" Story Event 2023

I suppose that's fair... But dang, that seems like a huge waste of time.
For anyone who isn't campaigning against the Web site including stories of that theme, yes. For the campaigners, it's right down the center lane of what they see as their mission.

Just dropped a short one in Transgender with the workplace being a gas station brothel in Hollywood.

This was written with a bow to Allman’s Hollywood Boulevard gas station owned and operated by the man called “Pimp to the Stars,” Scotty Bowers, in Hollywood in the 1930s and 40s. Bowers established a stable of gay and lesbian prostitutes operating out of a trailer behind his gas station and pimped them to the gay and bisexual elite in the movie industry.

Who says they read them? It's quite typical, I think, for someone campaigning against posting of a particular theme to post opposition to it wherever they see it. They don't have to have read it to do that--just looked at it enough to think they know what the theme is. So, I don't understand why this can't be understood.
They oppose authors too. I have a "fan club" waiting in the bushes for my stories. Once the stories appear my fan club springs forth and votes me down. However I have another fan club that enjoys actually reading my work, they're not as quick on the trigger.

So all you guys with stories already posted, was I silly waiting until the 16th to submit?

Em

Didn't take long for mine to be approved, then it sat for a couple of days waiting for the 16th.

Just remember Em, we have to wait an extra day for you lot to catch up. That's frustrating. 😁

I hate to say it but with too many irons in the fire, mine's going to be delayed for a while, possibly even held until next year. Wishing everyone who has or is participating the best with your stories and your readership!

Keep bashing away! Mine took two years to complete, but it's struck a chord with readers. I've picked up nine new followers since it went live.

I'm a bit stunned, to be honest. There's a lot of people who like gentle, slow growing romances.

Then I don't recommend the Letters and Transcripts category. My story was posted on 3/31 and my OTJ story was posted last night and already has twice the views. L&T is a black hole.
Well, how bad was it? I've never been in that category. Did you get any votes or comments at all?

Maybe Keith has a point there. Anyway, I've never compared the names of my followers with names on comments, but if I get, say, one comment and twelve votes, those are not fan clubs one way or the other. They are mostly invisible as readers. More people will indeed probably show up for a contest or event.

I placed a letter in Letters and Transcripts last August for the Letters of Love event. It just this month crossed over 2000 page views. Only Reviews and Essays is slower even though it is in a high interest topic (veteran suicide)

I can't seem to quote an attachment only. Anyway, I had a couple like that but I can't find them now - I think it was last fall with about 700 views. It must have improved, because the views are now okay. It took about a month to get better; I think it was in Erotic Couplings.

The only reason I've avoided that category is because I've never had anything that would fit. But if it was best for that, I'd put it there anyway. Just like I put two in Loving Wives because they belonged there. ;)

If it's fit for Reviews and Essays, that's where it goes. I'm not a big fan of Phoebe Snow (the singer), but I wanted to write about her anyway. Oh, we've talked about her a few weeks ago. ;) Anyway, at one point I got her confused with Janis Ian, is 72-years-old now. When did that happen?

Phoebe got just over 2,000 views and seven votes, which satisfied me.

Thanks... every time I think about what Phoebe Snow went though I get depressed.

Now I need to go sit in a dark corner and listen to Poetry Man non stop for the rest of the day. 😭

Then think about the train instead. Well, that's gone too. You need some more upbeat music. Los Lobos is pretty good, although they have some darker songs too. This one is fun, I think.

Finally got my Nudio's Pizza story submitted in E&V. We'll see how long it takes to get through the queue.

Sounds cliche, but it's not, I hope.

My First Time story was published on the 16th and I’ve been pleased with the response. A fair number of comments are requesting a part two for the story which, while a tiny bit ego boosting, would ruin the nature and impact of the story’s ending.

I'm with you. It's nice people would like to read more about your characters, but sometimes the one story is enough.

My On The Job story is now live:

Desire - how sometimes it’s hard to resist urges and how Literotica sometimes makes it much more difficult!

I read that. Nice, self-contained story. I agree with you, while I'm curious to see where that character goes from there, that story is done, and it would just be milking it to add sequels. One of my First Tiime stories (Last Summer) is the same way, I intentionally cut off any possibility of more in that story, because that's what made the story work, but some comments expressed disappointment about it.

Your guy is an interesting character, in an interesting time period for such things, so another story in the same 'universe' with him as the main character later in life might be worth doing, but not as an explicit sequel. To my mind, there is nothing wrong with having the same character appear in different, unrelated stories, if something meaningful happens to him later in life or elsewhere in life.

And, btw, saying 'that story is done' is a great thing. Stories should have a beginning, middle, and end. It's interesting how many stories here forget that last part. Sometimes it's a nice ride to see interesting characters go on and on, but it gets old, and starts feeling like there's no point to the whole exercise. Good job on wrapping it up in a way that makes a whole, complete story.

Have you ever written a large portion of a story, began proofreading it, and then immediately thought, "Oh wow. This is absolute horseshit. This isn't fun, this isn't sexy, and this certainly isn't well written.

I am still trying to finish a story in time for this challenge, and boy do I hate my own writing at the moment.

I'm lucky that this keyboard is cordless, because, otherwise, I definitely would have strangled myself by now.

On an unrelated note, has anyone seen my laptop charger? 😵
