With the news breaking on Monday of a school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, the media instantly fired up the narrative engines to begin churning out the expected reports we have all become too familiar with over time. The same touchstones were being trotted out, from gun control to the NRA, with "mass shooting" and "assault weapons" used freely, as well as statistics and global comparisons strewed throughout. And then the record-scratch moment arrived just as quickly: They learned the shooter was a trans individual.

Suddenly newsrooms had editors barking adjustment orders like a college football coach at halftime whose team is trailing by 17 points. Just like that, the news reports were altered on the fly, and in the process, the media members began embarrassing themselves with all manner of unhinged commentary. This was a new development, and as a result, it required new narratives to be delivered in real time.

The first indicator that things would be addressed in a completely ludicrous fashion was the stumbling from so many outlets as they fretted over the proper way to label the killer of half a dozen people. The group Trans Resistance Net sent newsgroups a letter to demand that the Nashville shooter be addressed in proper terminology, and it seems compliance was the result from the outlets.

It makes want to know what specifically happened to this person that made them snap since its so rare both for a woman and a Transexual that the circumstances are important.

Ignoring that the guns are the problem and pretending otherwise requires you to believe that Americans are uniquely sick and/or evil. Can we admit that the Right has absolutely no plan to improve mental health in this country and every intention of making it much much worse. Its flat out dishonest to claim that a collective group who have latched on to the idea that the LGBT community is dangerous after one mass shooting. There have been others but when this kind of thing happens you don't have to ask, you know its a white male. Just like when there is a terrorist attack you know its in France and if someone ate someones toes it was Florida.

We see it in the on going war on drugs, the lack of a fight for higher wages, safety nets and things that would contribute greatly to better mental health for Americans.

Its really rich hearing this from the Right. Lets for a split second pretend that police culture isn't toxic in and of itself. Maybe some of that stress is why they beat and kill black people. They are also more likely to die of suicide than to criminals, or in drunk driving that they get away with often times because Fam looks out for Fam. The same goes for Fire Fighters and military personnel. But anytime healthcare of any sort is brought up before Congress you can predict the votes before they come in and the Right does not care about us.

Granted I think the reality is that Conservatives hate others more than they love their families but if I'm wrong, if people knew what Republicans vote for they wouldn't vote for them.

I am a retired career firefighter and I know of 2 guys on my department that lost there jobs one due to DUI's and the other from coming in to work drunk. The cops did not cover up either one and neither did the fire department.

I can't speak for anyone but myself on the LGBTQIA2S+ community but I have no prejudice or ill will towards them. One of my sisters is a lesbian, and I worked with Gay men and lesbian women in multiple jobs that were great people to work with and their gender and sexual preference meant nothing to me like mine meant nothing to them. To me the gender of this shooter is just another fact in the case that may or may not mean a damn thing.

Guns in and of themselves are not the problem until an evil person decides to use them to break the law. I am a gun owner and have been since I was 18. In 46 years I have never pointed a gun at anyone, let alone shot anyone. I would be very happy if the only thing I ever shoot is targets.

Something needs to be done about gun violence but the debate is never a calm rational one. It is always laced with emotion, hatred, insults, and frankly, ignorance of the topic.

Parents, friends, law enforcement all failed. Unless the information is shared with gun dealers the dealer’s hands are tied by the constitution ( 2A ).

According to what I read. The parents were concerned about her having firearms and said she told them she had gotten rid of them. They said she had been treated for mental problems.
