No they aren't. Many may be seeing a "mental health counselor" but that is far from seeing a psychiatrist. And that begs the question as to how many of those "counselors" are actually qualified for the treatment of 'gender dysphoria?' The same can be asked regarding psychiatrists.

It's all bullshit. Neither party has any interest in banning guns. Guns are too valuable as a wedge issue for both parties. If that were not true; where are the proposed Amendments to repeal or modify the 2nd? The current Supreme Court isn't going to allow a ban on the most popular rifle to stand, and the make-up of the court won't change for a decade or so.

I don't consider pragmatism to be dumbfuckery. But we are each entitled to our own stupid opinions.

For perhaps the first time I agree with you. I have long said, and repeatedly on these forums, that mental health issues are a major problem in this country and our abysmal mental health care system and reporting system for mental health are partially to blame for some of these horrific events.

My issue is how do we prevent people with mental health issues from purchasing firearms. We certainly can't enter everyone that sees a counselor into a data base because for some it would be unnecessary and an invasion of privacy with potentially the repercussion of people simply not seeking help because of it.

I'm open to ideas on this because obviously this was a very disturbed young woman that needed help.

Well, from what I see, until folks want to give up those privacy settings this will still continue to happen. I'm not sure what hurdle you could adequately define that caused all types of mental health individuals to be required to report potential issues. Plus, make the data base from all states available to gun shops, and that will still bypass around private sales and lack of mandatory registration. Basically, evil folks are going to do evil things, regardless of the laws or lack of them.
