Let me just pop in to answer this one for you.
Anything that shows dick or "twat" has to be linked. Anything that shows an animated sex act has to be linked. They are in the rules here in AMpics. The difference is. Women are much less likely to get reported because guys like pussy. Guys don't like seeing other guys dicks (for the most part) so they are the quickest to report un-linked dick pics. RARELY ever would you see a guy report a pussy pic so women can get away with it more easily.One of the reasons I changed the title to the sexy men thread. I've had whole threads deleted before because guys didn't link the dick pics and Mods will usually edit/remove and warn a couple times, but if they have to keep doing it. They will just zap the thread. This thread probably moves too fast for the Mod to follow so they just say "Fuck it"
But yes. Technically any gif/video/picture that shows the fun goods are supposed to be linked.

Old Lit was easier with links. You could easily hide them in text. New lit. You can do the same, but it takes more work and not everyone knows how to do it, so they tend to just post it and then it pops up in all its glory.
I rarely link pictures anymore because anyone around the net can pop onto lit without having to sign in and can see linked pictures. Pictures that are uploaded straight to the site require you to sign in to see (In AMpics anyway, not anywhere else)
