Chaotic Coffee Klatch (tea also available)

I learnt a new word today in local vernacular ‘pomp’ 😃😃

The pronunciation is difficult for me to describe, the best I can come up with is that the ‘o’ is the same as å in Swedish.

It’s slang here for having sex 😂

So like o in Finnish. We keep wondering why Swedes say o like u and u almost like y, so they need another letter for the ordinary o 😜

I think of pomp as a serious occasion, like a wedding or the Queen passes by in a motorcade.......
The song played at a graduation is "Pomp and Circumstance."

Yes, that’s what I would think if I saw it written but it is not pronounced the same. It is an Afrikaans word, which I have discovered mirrors Flemish very closely.

Ummm
There is no more Queen. She passed late last year I believe. Chuckie took over I think.

Amazing Euro lingos, kinda like how the Germans use an umlaut over a vowel.

We Americans (well this one) are sitting here fascinated by this conversation. Maybe an audio clip?
Still not quite talkative, aftereffects of the migraine...

You can read Finnish letter by letter, the only exceptions bein 'nk' and 'ng' - those are the only 2-letter sounds we have.

Our 8 wowels are like...
A as in part
E as in sex
I as in kill
O as in Olivia
U as in boots
Y as in nephew
Ä as in cat
Ö as in her

We have å in Finnish alphabet as well, but it's not actually used. There are just some names among the Swedish-speaking minority. But it sounds like our o.
