Gavin Newsom predicted massive budget deficit for California. Reality was even worse, analysis finds

Despite California's high taxes, legislature's budget analyst expects state tax revenues to drop

By Aaron Kliegman | Fox News

The California Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO), a government agency that analyzes the budget for the state legislature, estimates in a report published last week that Newsom's forecast undershot the mark by about $7 billion, thanks to about $10 billion less in tax revenues than expected.

"In particular, using recent revenue collections and economic data, we estimate there is a two‑in‑three chance that state revenues will be lower than the governor's budget estimates for 2022‑23 and 2023‑24," writes Gabe Patek, the legislature's budget analyst. "Our best estimate is that revenues for these two years will be roughly $10 billion lower — implying a larger budget problem by about $7 billion."

His Communist policies drove 500,000 taxpaying residents out of CA in the last two years.

There does seem to be something wrong with the Golden State.

California appears to be on the verge of a new demographic era, one in which population declines characterize the state. Lower levels of international migration, declining birth rates, and increases in deaths all play a role. But the primary driver of the state’s population loss over the past couple years has been the result of California residents moving to other states. It is a remarkable turnaround for California—long the epicenter of population growth in the United States. Even so, it is a continuation of a decades-long slow down.
Much has been made of the California exodus to other states, and rightly so. This migration, over the decades, has the power to reshape the state. Since 2010, about 7.5 million people moved from California to other states, while only 5.8 million people moved to California from other parts of the country. According to Department of Finance estimates, the state has lost residents to other states every year since 2001.

It might not be outside the bounds of inquiry to wonder if this imbalance is due to the prevailing political philosophies which dominate much of the state.

Ah yes, the science 😂

He probably didn’t need to declare on a large scale. People have a tendency to self select. Walmart is leaving our city due to lack of financial viability. I won’t go to Walgreens anymore. Now if we can get rid of Hobby Lobby…

We decide our support of business with our dollar and government with our vote.

Walmart is leaving Portland Oregon because of the rampant shoplifting tolerated by the most destructive Marxist city government in America. The shoplifting has been allowed to continue to the point the Walmart store was no longer able to exist as a profit center. This isn't just happening in Portland. It's happening in many blue cities that have simply surrendered to minority-dominated neighborhoods that they believe have been historically oppressed and have a right to steal as payment for that alleged oppression. This is true in San Francisco where state law labels the stealing of $950 in merchandise a misdemeanor and the housing of a single prisoner costs $81,000 very few misdemeanor arrestees will spend a day in jail.

Hmmm. That’s a party line you are drawing. A little pissing match. The right likes to keep their base’s amygdala's stimulated - keep them scared and angry.
  • Walmart has said it’s closing stores this year for many reasons and hasn't called out retail crime.
Portland only had 2 Walmarts and one was specifically built to be attractive to Washington State people to avoid sales tax. They couldn’t compete. so your headlines read “Last 2 Walmarts in Portland to close”.

worked on you.

Walmart as stated openly that it is leaving Portland because sales aren't performing well enough to stay there. Nobody in Portland wants to shop at Walmart, so they are leaving.

Your bullshit spin is bullshit.

Portland like other blue cities is getting what they deserve. They've created a social and economic disaster area in which more people are moving out than moving in. The city lost 11,000 people from July 2020 to July 2021. The state itself is a disaster brought on by radical Democrat policies, so much so that 11 counties want to become part of Idaho. There's no getting around it, Democrat Marxism is the enemy of the American way and they have turned a once beautiful city into a shithole, and Seattle isn't too far behind. I did spend a couple of nights there last year in a hotel named the Lotte on 5th Ave., a nice place but not very many people there. That part of town wasn't as bad as other parts of the city.

Now we see Cracker Barrel Restaurants are leaving Portland as well. Who's next?

Cracker Barrel joins Walmart in leaving Portland amid rising crime

The only remaining Cracker Barrel locations remains open in Medford in Southern Oregon.

Down on the main drag here there's an empty building where a Sizzler was prior to covid. I'd love to see Cracker Barrel to move into it because my local area could use another good family restaurant.

Every town needs a good place to eat. When I lived in CA the choices were endless, here there are a few that are adored by the locals and you get your money's worth.

The metro area gained population during that time, so there's still a net influx of people into the area. Chances are they're just looking for cheaper rent in the suburbs, something you can find in any city of that size or bigger.
The state itself is a disaster brought on by radical Democrat policies, so much so that 11 counties want to become part of Idaho.
That's not why those eleven counties want to join Idaho. They want to join Idaho because they're right-wing Republican counties and they'd rather be part of a state where they're in the majority. Which is perfectly understandable, but it's got nothing to do with how well or poorly the Democratic government of Oregon has done. It's simply because they disagree with that government on almost everything.
