@Massive Grooves got us this crazy air fryer/toaster oven thing and it’s so exciting and we ate the whole thing!!!!!!
I do so enjoy non-standard breakfasts!!!

I do oats with honey in the morning except Sunday mornings then we do brunch of unhealthy proportions . And just to all of you going aaagh I love my oats and honey.

I wake up sometimes with deep thoughts especially after reading. There is a discussion in the Time Travelers Wife about determinism and free will in which chaos is the most expressive of free will. I think it is but also chaos to me is that "shit happens in life". Your thoughts?

It was way too early for me to consider this when you posted this at 4am my time I think? Or maybe it was 6am.

Anyway.... I enjoyed the book quite a bit - read it near 20 years ago I think. They kinda made a hash of the made for TV movie where the premise got a bit pedophilia feeling.

Determinism and free will relative to chaos?
I am a believer in free will... that our path is not set for us. However, I also believe in that kind of kismet of things being "supposed" to happen... that opportunities taken and people who come into our lives are gifts to us. In a woo woo sort of way, I sometimes have a sense of time interconnectedness that the wheel turns and people who are important to us in this life are connected to us in a larger more cosmic way. Philosophically I do not intellectually believe in reincarnation and I am uncertain if I believe in a life beyond this one. But...I am also a person of faith and so I allow for the possibility of the more. Something bigger than us...something more than we can see or know...something spiritual beyond the veil.
I can't say I believe in chaos as a principle to be honest. The universe and the natural world and the sub atomic organization of everything is really quite the opposite of chaos. It is orderly and understandable while also being wildly complex and surprising and yes, even magical at times.
I do very much enjoy novels that have a time travel element. I guess it tickles my imagination.

I would recommend in that genre:

Kindred by Octavia Butler (an outstanding author!)
and
What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon

This post would never pass muster in a philosophy class. My college advisor would be shaking his head...

For sheer utility, they're worth it. I'm single and live alone, so it's perfect for creating single servings of things (meats, poultry, and fish) when I want something quick to eat. Also wings. Perfect for making enough wings (hot, bbq, etc) very quickly.

If I didn't get reflux from oats, I'd eat oatmeal with berries many mornings. I have plenty of frozen redcurrants and bilberries, strawberries too. One way to eat the daily 2dl of berries.

It's not the worst thing I've seen, but I can't imagine it making much sense at all to someone who never read the book.

There's the oven anyway, and definitely no space for another bulky item in the kitchen. I already struggle with the placement of food processor/mixer and all its bowls, and Instant Pot - the latter being very unusual here.

I had an Instapot, but rarely used it once the bloom wore off, so I gave it away to a friend.

The make our own luck, was when we both realized we were the love of each other's llife. However, was it chance that she was taken from me by a rare almost untreatable cancer? Were there choices she made before me that put her at risk of the cancer? So, I am torn between our free choice versus that it was chance and fate for her to die (determinism). I apologize for being a downer here and can take the discussion in a PM.

I love having both options in one. I've ended up doing rice pudding with pressure instead of slow cooking - I like it better that way.

There’s a cooking show host in the US (and elsewhere I imagine) named Alton Brown. Very informative and entertaining, but one thing we like about him is he is not a fan of one-use gadgets. Everything he uses in his kitchen is a multi tasked. That said, our new oven has an air fryer but we haven’t used that yet.

I get that, especially with my small kitchen. My air fryer multi-tasks as a toaster/toaster oven. I also do not own a mixer or a microwave, so that helps in the space saving department. Also I don't own a coffee machine as I don't drink coffee (I know, I know). But I do have a crock pot (which I keep in the basement until needed.

I used to be using my crock pot very often, especially in fall and winter…until my brother got me an InstaPot a couple years ago for Christmas.
That thing is so useful!
I can have 8 quarts of soup or beef/game stew in two hours, including the time it takes to cut up the veggies and cube the meat for it!

I think it's clear life is a mixture of both. Chance and free will. And sometimes the will of others than yourself.
