Where I used to live they had the overhead transmission wires. And my house was at the end of the grid so we were always the last people to get our power back on.

Here the electricity companies were pretty much told to change all the minor transmission wires into underground ones. The major lines that go above the trees still stay overhead - here the problem is usually trees falling on the lines, and those big ones are high enough to avoid that.

It's still being done, takes quite a few years.

I work at the power plant (18 km away, about 11 miles) AND the local hospital is at the end of my street. We still loose power all the time.
