to ask what tide pooling was. I realized I’ve lived by the ocean my whole life and took for granted that folks would know what I was talking about.

Pic1-the view heading down the stairs to the beach. This area is usually covered in water.
Pic2-all of those whitish things that look like crushed shells are a Sea anemone. When they are not in the water they will usually close up to protect themselves. They use shell bits as camouflage and also close when an enemy comes near.
Pic3,4,5-are Sea anemone in a variety of stages of open or closed. The one in the water is clearly open and you can see its tentacles.
If you zoom in on pic 13 you can see where the water regularly goes to. That green mossy stuff is a little above the water level.
It was a minus tide today.

Being close to the RI shoreline, I'd often take my kids tide pooling in Jamestown and Newport.

I had a dear friend who always made howler monkey noises. We lost him to suicide but in his honor whenever we got together we would howl like monkeys.
