What about when the cat falls asleep 😁

For me white noise is worse than what it's supposed to cover.
I really can't fall asleep without white noise anymore. The habit began when we lived close enough to a train line that we could hear the 2 am, 4 am and 6 am horns. We had to do something until we moved.

That's something we don't have here, trains rarely use horns. (Grade crossings (is that even the right translation) have been minimised, and if there are any they usually have safety booms.)

But I know I'm in a minority regarding white noise. I think it's some 15% for whom it's worse than the noise to be covered.

As a exchange student I lived ln the same block with a church whose bells rang every single morning. On Mon-Fri it was wasn't a problem, it was around the time I was supposed to wake up anyway, but I was annoyed at first about the thought oaf forced waking up early during the weekend. Except it didn't happen. The bells rang, but I didn't wake up. And my window was towards the church over the yard!

I lived for many years on an ambulance route and they would go by at all hours. I totally tuned them out. But if someone was on the front stoop talking (my apartment was next to the front door) I would always wake up.

I live across the street from Miami Valley North (Ohio) and we get to listen to medivac helicopters 24/7. Who sleeps?
Along with Ambulances, and Police & Fire departments, etc. Oh yeah, its on I-70 too.

I've accumulated a collection of strange habits for sleeping over the years. It's started with always needing an extra pillow to cuddle. Then I must have a blanket. Then I can't sleep in the dark. I don't like it, so I had to have the light on. But then I developed insomnia, so I wear a sleeping mask with the light on. Then it got too hot and we installed aircon and now the room must be cold for me to fall asleep but my blanket must be warm because my top half need warm while my feet need the breeze. Then I missed the sound of the aircon, so now must have the fan on all the time, even during winter. Then I tried hypnosis for depression and now I can't sleep if nothing is playing over the fan, so Friends or TBBT has to be playing low enough not to wake me but loud enough so I can hear it over the fan. Must now also have 6 firm pillows surrounding my entire being + the duvet, because I'm old and things like back hurts sometimes.

I tell you, I totally get if a couple sleeps in separate bedrooms. It's not cause they're having problems, its probably cause one of them wants to stay sane 😐

You got it right. My wife would suround herself with pillows. I need a pillow when I sleep on my side to protect my knees. Sometimes I need a pillow to cuddle. Sleep is so important for all kinds of health and especially sexual health. I forgot, I need a wedge shaped pillow for my sinuses. Getting old is no fun.
