Chaotic Coffee Klatch (tea also available)

We grab a seat at the overly large table with our 3 rather pretty glasses of 8oz pours - 2 so dark you can not see through them (think imperial stout) and the Saison which is a light cloudy beverage the color wheat
I like to start with the lightest - so I tried the Saison. It kinda tastes like a hard cider, only fizzier and with more citrus notes - mostly grapefruit. It is okay but has a muddy aftertaste.
The brown ale is just - bad. poor effort. As Mr Cas said - it was like the put all of the beer ingredients together and that was it.
and the Chocolate Stout - it was VERY chocolatey. Not too bad. But a bitter after-taste I found unpleasant.

Up an upbeat note - a young mom came in with her ~5 year old with pink puffy boots and a glittery back pack - they set themselves up on the couches and were super cute. Reminded us of Alaska where kids are always welcome and just a normal thing in bars. A little bit of a tough place to hang with a kid - no food service other than bagged chips. One night a week they have a food truck show up there.

If the beer was better it MIGHT be an option for the retirement party. But no. Pass.

As we sit there drinking these beers together, passing them back and forth, Mr Cas says, laughing.. that he sure is glad that we are not on a first date - as this would be classified as a TOTAL disaster. We laugh our asses off and have a good kiss. So... not all is lost - we still have our sense of humor and a willingness to adventure goes a long way in my book.

Strike 5

On the good news front - got an email while we were there advising us that the FIRST restaurant we went to (closed today) does have a party room the right size for the event available the night we would like it. Will have to go back and look at it - they have EXCELLENT food there and a full bar, but I have not been in the room they are offering since an extensive remodel.

So- while we have not got it all figured out yet... and it was an exceeding weird day - AND we learned a thing or two that we did not know.
It'll be a good long time before we head down to check those breweries out again. I wonder if they will still be in business in 2 years. 🤷‍♀️

Story time over - thanks for hanging with me :nana:

Sounds to me like a fun day of disaster! Which you will joke with each other about for years. I say this because of a horrendous experience I had years ago at Jacob Lake in Arizona. Nothing about that overnight stay was good. But we laughed about it and while we would never ever stay there again… or eat in their restaurant… it brings a smile to my face every time I think of it. And when I drive through that area, I always stop… and buy a candy bar. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Exactly - we are gonna be laughing about this day for a LONG time. And we definitely ruled out a few places and that is a kind of progress. :)

Of the three, I liked it the best. Mr Cas hated it, but then he does not like grapefruit anything 🤷‍♀️
I love the story and I smiled while I read it. It is something that could happen to mrs and me too. We've had our share of "fun disaster" over the years.

A Saison Ale is originate from the French speaking Belgium and is made quite fresh and light so the saison workers (helping the farmers) didn't get drunk during workday.
I like it a lot on a hot summer day!

I must have had some but didn't realize it had a special name when I was in Belgium precovid.
All the beer I had in Belgium was excellent.
AND the very best mussels I've ever eaten. Yum!

Moules Frites!! That is so good! And poured down with a good Ale......

I always try the local beer when I'm traveling. It's interesting how different they taste depending on the water. (it is at least 95% of the ingredients so....)

I think we need a WTF!! emoji for posts. I have read James Joyce and One Hundred Years of Solitude and as difficult as those were to follow they pale into insignificance against this thread.

Just saying 🤪🤪🤪
Yes! Or at least something between a like and lovey eyes!

Good morning ealy risers and insomniacs. It is a new day in a New Lunar New Year, the Rabbit, symbol of peace and prosperity. To paraphrase the brash Italian driver in Gumball Raly, what's behind me is not my concern! Looking for that "peaceful easy feeling".

Good morning! Really wish this year would indeed turn my finances into better...

Yes! Belgium Saison is a lovely "first warm day of spring" beer! Looking out at the sloppy wet snow and grey weather it is something I long for. Another good beer for those early warmer spring days is the Dutch "Lente Bok" which doesn't translate well to English, but if you insist on translating it it would be "spring buck"
This name has absolutely nothing to do with bucks or goats, so naturaly on 75% of all bok beers ( be it autumn or spring bok) there is a picture of a buck...
Anyhow... unnecessarily long story short. Good light spring beer I would recommend to anyone on rokjesdag (being the Dutch term for the first day of spring the weather is warm enough for women to be wearing short skirts or summer dresses)
Love to you all..
Thom

Maybe this is a stoopid ask BUT what is the difference between the Chinese New Year and the Lunar New Year?
