Catherine Glenn Foster testified during a Congressional hearing on abortion access, and the anti-choice activist let loose with a whopper that would make every bombastic Republican proud.

“In places like Washington D.C.,” fetuses are “burned to power the lights of the city’s homes and streets,” she accused. “The next time you turn on the light, think of the incinerators.”

Foster, the president of the far-right organization American United for Life, was repeating a quickly debunked conspiracy theory perpetrated by one of the activists accused of hiding five fetuses inside her home in Washington, D.C.

About 8 or 9 years ago there was an incinerator facility in Oregon that was burning local medical waste, as well as medical waste from Canada and other US states, along with solid municipal waste, for energy. Amputated limbs, cancerous tissue, cysts, and yes fetal tissue under 20 weeks*.
Aborted or miscarriage, made no difference.

Once the board of commissioners learned that fetal tissue was included in medical waste, and would not be separated or culled from the medical waste, they ceased accepting medical waste at the facility, citing their Christian beliefs as reasons.

^^^ No, there's one big difference that far too many people overlook. Mortuaries are a HUGE business and they are very active, but often deep behind the scenes. There have been laws passed that require certain materials to receive full funerals and I fully believe that is largely because of morticians. There is also a major conflict of interest in many locations with the Coroner/Medical Examiner being the local Mortician.
