My grandpa used to make his own beers on a smaller scale and I was his test subject and drinking buddy.
Now I go all over the state once a month just to try out new ones with a bunch of friends it's great down time, you can see the passion for the work from the brewers they really love their jobs!

Yes homebrewing is fun and where I started. It is a lot of work. What state are you in?

I think so, or at least less bitter. I don't know what I want half the time. When I go to a bar, I ask for something girlie, sweet, but will knock me on my ass. they always make a good choice though. Apparently, strangers know what I want better than I do. Story of my life.

I think you need ale based chocolate beer, ales are lighter, less bitter and hold some sweeter flavours better.

I think it just depends. Ales are probably generally sweeter than lagers but most ales have more grain, higher ABV and therefore sweeter. Unless they have a shit ton of hops to help balance out. That would not work for chocolate beer.

@Justadesperatewifeandmom have you ever been to swamphead brew in Gainesville? They have some decent stouts with chocolate. That Dougs Dairy series you might like. Trying to think of semi-regional stuff for you.
