I have written two chapters of a story and trying to publish them for the first time. I have uploaded them by copy and pasting them then submitting them for review to be published. They showed that they were uploaded successfully and were in the pending file. After a day or two they went from having a “pending” sign to having a “New” sign. However, they are still showing up in the pending file. Do I need to do something else once they are accepted to get them to show up for others to read?

You need do no more. Until you write your next story.

The 'New' stories always 'go live' a bit after midnight, US east coast time. It varies a bit to the exact time, but what happens is that Laurel (the site's owner and story approver) will approve your stories (they moved to 'New', so they're approved) and set them to get posted at the next update. But until the site update runs, they'll stay in pending. It's about 8:00 pm EST right now, so give it a few hours and they should get posted to live and you'll see them 'tomorrow' on the 'New Stories' list (https://www.literotica.com/stories/new_submissions.php).

Everything you describe is Working Normally, so, congratulations! Just be patient a few more hours.

Actually, it's usually around midnight Pacific time. I lived in EST and my stories have always gone on line about 3 AM my time.

Ah... cool. Thanks. I think I recall that now. My excuse is in my time zone it's sometime in the afternoon .

Mystery #3,448 in the Lit Secret Files...

I always assumed that when stories are approved for publication, and are assigned a date, that they are put in an automated queue to upload when that date arrives; which would be midnight at wherever they were uploaded. Presumably, Laurel is on the West Coast, so the uploads begin there, Midnight, EST 3AM.

But what do I know?

East coast here. My stories have "gone live" anywhere between 1 and 3 am. So I don't think there's an EXACT time to it, at least none I can predict lol.

New stories in the UK are updated around 6 am, depending on the differences in changing into and out of standard and daylight savings time. That translates to ~1 am East Coast US time.

So far as I'm aware, you can request a date or other timing. There's been discussion here that folks have submitted multi-part stories and asked for each entry to to be posted every second or third day or some specific spacing after the previous and that it happened.

But I've never asked for a specific date or day of the week[1] or timing (I've never submitted two stories at the same time), what I've noticed is that each of my submissions goes "New" and shows up at the next posting. But apparently you can ask for a date.

The other question is whether or not Laurel tries to 'balance out' new postings, so she'd hold some back so that each day has about the same number. I've never been fussed enough to try and work that out or ask.

[1] There was a discussion here months ago (or more) that someone had tried to work out the "best day of the week for your story to get posted." And I think it was in there that the ability to space or be more specific about when your story appears was made.
