Speaking of older things, what are some things you experienced as a child/young adult that a teenager today has no clue about?

For me, the biggest things would be how TV’s have changed. Like when I was a kid, my parents didn’t buy a TV with a remote, because they had children to change the channel for them. Or how video games only worked on channel 3. Or when you stayed home from school because you were sick, watching The Price Is Right was a necessary part of your cure along with Vics vapor tub, chicken noodle soup, and a Sprite.

What what what? No Perry Mason at noon?

Maybe that was only in Portland. (Back when the idea of burning your neighbor’s business to the ground because you were mad about something was a ridiculous concept).

They do! Especially Hondas. I've looked at several used cars lately and some of the most affordable are manual, which I don't know how to drive (except in theory) but feel like I should learn. It's useful for traveling!

I was setting up a tv a while back. One of the inputs was identified as STB. Set Top Box, from when the cable (later satellite) bix sat atop the tv cabinet.

Almost everyone I knew in H.S. had a manual transmission. I don’t know if they even make stick shifts anymore.

They do. I see them in porn videos! Lol

My truck (Toyota Tacoma) has a stick...if anyone needs it for making a movie...

I kinda miss the manual lever for four wheel / two wheel drive from my Jeep..the Taco has a dial

I like to cook bacon in oven rather than stove top. Comes out more consistent. I like cooking breakfast. You ever have Migas? Also known as Breakfast tacos.

If I recall the “I’m sick” daily schedule correctly, it was morning cartoons, then talk shows/court tv until The Price Is Right, then came I Love Lucy, Bewitched, I Dream Of Jeannie, Beverly Hillbillies, Andy Griffith, and Gomer Pyle until afternoon cartoons came on. That stretch between the morning cartoons until The Price Is Right was the absolute worst. Made you second guess staying home.

Dial up internet. I can still hear it.

*five minutes later*

“You’ve got mail!”

“Sweet, wait… why isn’t this working?!” *clicks frantically*

*a wild shout from downstairs appears* “Hey I’m on the phone with an important phone call for the next hour.”

I was brought home from the hospital in a ‘66 396 SS Malibu. Brand new car at the time. My earliest memories of are of him shifting that car, which the dork sold when I was 4 or 5. I was mesmerized by that shifter! I love manual transmissions to this day. There are automatics that are faster (I confess, my Z28 drag car is an automatic), but for the pure joy of driving, there is nothing even close to a V8 and a manual transmission. People who say a 4 cylinder or a V6 are just as fun or just as fast, just never actually had a proper V8.

I loved it. Seemed to be more powerful than my Mombus. Well…not my VW. I don’t think that thing even got up to 55.

But other manuals seemed to accelerate faster. And it gave my anxious ass something to do as I drove.
