It is good to see an American president stand up for individual liberties...and it will be interesting to see how the usual suspects will react who always claim it is the OTHER party, and not the Democrats, who stand up for individual freedoms.
Actually, the opposite: Trump considered a federal mandate that outlaw possession of marijuana nationwide, and which would override all weed legalization that had previously been passed by various states.Did it even occur to Trump?
Your beatnik uncle?Who among us doesn’t have a family member or close friend doing time in a federal prison for possession of a joint? Lol.
No one and that's not what this is for, boomerror.Who among us doesn’t have a family member or close friend doing time in a federal prison for possession of a joint? Lol.
They'll do that to all Democrats, no matter what they actually do. So he might as well make some common sense reforms. They'll rag on him as 'soft on crime'.
Probably thousands but Biden's actions have no effect on the States. How many offenders are still jailed under state laws?
Isn't his job to force States to do the right thing. Now...if you want to give him this right...then cool. We will use the same right for some other issuesProbably thousands but Biden's actions have no effect on the States.
If governor's follow suit, it will be more.I have no problem with the move, long overdue. But it's not the momentous event some folks in the media want to hype it up to be. The pardon only effects approx. 6,500 people that were charged with misdemeanor possession. Few, if any, spent anytime in jail/prison. Most were fined and placed on probation. BUT they were still left with a drug offense on their records. The pardons will allow them to expunge their records and get on with their life.
The order doesn’t apply to state penal systems but it would be interesting to see what the number is of people convicted and incarcerated for mere possession of small quantities for personal use by state. How many offenders are still jailed under state laws?
