Put the mango down...now walk away, no don't look back.
The curry gods are smashing their pappadams on their foreheads. Next you'll be putting pineapple in Spag Bol.
Not pineapple. Eggplant and zucchini are good though.

I used to love coming back from mine visits in Africa. Work boots, mines, goats and cattle on the surface. They'd take the boots out the back and the quarantine boys would have them all clean and brushed. Not that I hadn't disinfected them but they did a good job. Personally I would bin those Bali thongs out of caution and avoid any chance of being the cause. In Nairobi they used to roll a carpet down, soaked in pesticides. Everyone had to walk down that. Come to think of it, I can remember a wet carpet thing somewhere else, might have been here in the old days.

Rather sad that an old acquaintance didn't make it through his third lot of covid. Last word was him moaning on the monday that he had got it again, then on the thursday his wife let everyone know that it had gone to his heart and had a heart attack and died. Not an uncommon thing with the latest variant apparently. Some of the big mining companies have sent everyone back home again here and gradually they are ordering masks on in the offices. I can't say it is wide spread though.

I have no idea what Scott Morrison's idea is with his church appearances over here, but his words are probably ill thought out and speaking to a theme amongst that lot. I can't say it was a positive image. Some blokes have a habit of self-imploding. Chatham House Rules are not understood by people here so videos and quotes will inevitably escape.

Afternoon all,

Well a new week and the morning temps are much warmer. Still in single digits but closer to double figures than zero. We are in for a wet day timetable all week here in Melbourne town. Lots of rain and some heavy days. The sun briefly came out an hour ago but only lasted less than 10mins. No tasks for me this week so only the usual weekly stuff to do. Will have to time my outing with the rain.

My local bank branch is up and running again so no need to go to the shopping centre. Talking a fellow retiree last week it seems banks are continuing to close branches blaming COVID. These so called temporary closures have become permanent. They couldn't push people to banking on-line so they used COVID to just close branches and force people to use their apps. What I have noticed is how many people want to go to a bank branch. It's mainly older people but still there is enough interest for banks to keep branches open with actual staff.

So Slomo was found to of breached the rules of a caretaker govt by bullying the public service to report on that refugee boat on election day. Even the minister in charge has come on TV and said she didn't do anything wrong. Which is interesting considering she breached security protocols which Mr Potato Head put in place. When the public servants refused to be bullied, Slomo released the security info anyway which is a serious breach of national security. Seems the LNP were once again reading from the Rump play book. They were so desperate to stay in power they were happy to subvert national security. They were so secretive about "on water matters" when they were in power, but when faced with losing power they were ok with saying fuck it to their own rules. You can bet when the federal ICAC is up and running, one of their first tasks will be reviewing this security breach. If any public servant was to do the same thing they would be facing jail time, but if you're a politician there aren't any consequences and they certainly won't face any jail time. They are essentially untouchable which needs to change if people are going to have faith in politicians in this country.

Slomo seems to be free to talk all sorts of shit now that he is no longer constrained with his role as PM. No doubt he will go on about God giving him the job as PM and was doing god's work. Apparently god spoke to him to lock up children in detention, not respond to people impacted by natural disasters, call state politicians nazi's and fucking off OS when he should of being doing his job. Apparently that's the Christian way. Yet another happy clapper using the bible to be an absolute arsehole and demean people who aren't in his church. One thing is for sure, he won't be getting any OS posting since all the world leaders he encountered thought he was an absolute arsehole. We are still dealing with the fallout from that.

Watched the Jan 6th hearings last week. Was only going to watch a bit of it but ended up watching the whole thing. What was interesting is that the local audience couldn't believe that Rump would take those actions. He never changed his entire time as President so not sure why people in the US are continually surprised that he didn't do the right thing. Rump has never done the right thing his entire life. The American people gave him the power to try and bring down the American democracy and if it wasn't for the people in govt who actually believed in their oath to the democracy, he would of succeeded. The military in the US has never gone against the govt, but it was clear the head of the military wasn't going to allow Rump to take power by force. The concerning parts of those hearings were that the Secret Service deleted incriminating comms on the day of the coup. The DOJ also have said they won't prosecute Rump for anything he did to subvert the democracy of the US which also includes his inner circle who have all lawyered up to not go to jail. If you have nothing to hide you wouldn't engage a criminal defence attorney. Other brave people who worked for the White House have come out but they have also killed of any chance they will work in politics again. And others have had death threats from Rump supporters including witnesses being threatened by the Rump cult. This is not over as Rump has his cult of followers and they aren't going anywhere. You can bet Rump will run again in 2024. His ego won't allow him not to. So the US will back in the situation they faced on Jan 6th and we'll be talking about this again in 2024. What the US need is a third major political party to challenge the 2 party system which is toxic to the American democracy. And a weak America only emboldens countries like Russia and China to do as they like which will lead to more war and a rather unstable world. It's all in the hands of the American public. Do they really give a fuck about anything outside the US? If they don't then the rest of the world will pay the price including us in our island fortress.

Stayed up till nearly 4am watching the last stage of Le Tour. So a slow start to the day for me. Was good to see the women's race as well. Wasn't expecting that. Not sure why they called the women's race Femme. It should just be Le Tour women's race. Just like they use in athletics and swimming etc. The women racing are athletes in their own right so why the difference in the name. Hopefully they change that next year. Will be watching the women's race and another cheese and wine night coming up in the next week. The commentary from the Aussie team was as usual very informative especially for someone who is not a bike racing enthusiast. I only watch the major tours so the info the commentary team provides is excellent.

May be the night for Spag Bol. Nothing else but sauce, pasta and mince topped off by parmesan. Sometimes I add peas to the mince and change up the mince between beef or veal and pork. They don't know what mince is in the US and Canada. They call it "ground" beef or what ever respective meat.

Hope the rest of the week is good for you. Splendour was not so much splendour but a test of patience and a lot of anger at the lack of communication. I certainly wouldn't be paying several thousand dollars for a campsite, let alone for one bogged or flooded plus transport that couldn't get in the venue. The operators of that festival were obviously not prepared for the weather. Given it's a Winter festival, not preparing for bad weather seems absurd.

From 80mm of rain and thunder and lightning on Saturday, almost calling off the Man U v Aston Villa game, to Wednesday at 23C and water temp of 23C as well. Spent the afternoon at the beach swimming and enjoying the sun. Dog's 3rd birthday so he enjoyed a swim out through the waves as well.

Parliament finally gets underway and all of the promised things can start being delivered. Just call it like it is, deal with it in an open manner, and don't fudge it. The audited accounts of the WA petition to succeed from the Commonwealth of Australia came through. There are enough numbers to have forced it to be heard in state parliament. McGowan was smart enough to put it to an audit committee of the Upper House to verify and take time over, as it was launched in the darkest days of the federal attacks and backing of Clive Palmer's High Court bids. The mood has changed since then so it will go nowhere unless a second one happens. Hopefully those dark days never return. The mood for a federal ICAC is pretty high. That clean up needs to happen before year end.

Not sure what Morrison is thinking about with the Tokyo speech night. Tickets are $80 or $55 for the balcony so there is no way it is covering the speakers fees. Handa and his WDC are the event organisers, and all the speakers come from the International Democracy Union, a right wing gathering of leaders and parties headquartered in Germany. Handa is a billionaire who likes to manipulate things here and there, even the money-grub politicians in Japan stay clear unless they are desperate. I would be a bit careful if I was him.

Off to enjoy a fine night out. Yesterday was pea-soup fog and flights diverted here and there, today is as good as it gets in winter.

Not to be concerned about Slomo...god will tell him what to do... or his wife.

I am feeling very positive today. As in positively tested and infected with covid. My entire body aches.

Afternoon all from a currently dry Melbourne.

Have been watching the Comm Games, well trying to given the time zone difference. The finals of the swimming doesn't start till around 4am and they don't do many repeats. Last night it was all about the gymnastics which is like watching paint dry. Went from watching the women's Le Tour to the games in the same night. Thankfully I'm retired and the other stuff I've had to deal with over the last 2yrs is now over so I can waste a day on sleep. Certainly shortens a day if you were stay up watching the entire Comms Games coverage.

Apparently the next Comm Games will be here in Melbourne in 2026. Won't be in Melbourne by that time, but wouldn't be going even if I was. I've been one Olympics and one Comm Games and that was enough. The games in Sydney in 2000 was a rip off for people from other states. You could only book accommodation if you flew with Ansett and if you went your own way the hotels and motels were allowed to charge anything they wanted. Prices were up by 300%. So for the money I spent at those Olympics I could of travelled twice to London. Even the taxi industry was into ripping off visitors. All the doing of the NSW state govt. I paid nearly $1000 for a seat at the Opening Ceremony only to be lead up into the bleachers and couldn't see much. Plus the transport to the venues sucked. The parking lot for the buses to the main stadium was miles away even though there were bus stops right outside the stadium. They employed OS students who fucked off at night, so getting back to your accommodation was with the help of other people attending the games. If you didn't leave before the night sessions ended you couldn't get transport back to your accommodation.
They just can't run sporting events in Sydney to save themselves. I'll never go to another major sporting event in Sydney. Went to the Comm Games in Melbourne in 2006 and you could count on the PT running to the early hours so you could get home. The price of the opening ceremony tickets were less than $500 and I got a seat a couple of rows from the front.

Was surprised to see the farmers federation breaking ranks with the LNP. If the LNP is going to keep losing it's base by denying climate change is real it will never win govt. Mr Potato Head essentially handed Albo the next election on day one of the new parliament by not supporting the new climate change targets. He is also going to appose The Voice to Parliament since Turnbull rejected the Uluru statement. Again it seems the LNP can't read the room. If the LNP is not careful it will be in the political wilderness for the next few elections. It will be just as irrelevant and the Vic LNP party who it seems just can't stop it's corruption. If it isn't racism it's money for votes. They won't win the next election in Nov. It's clear the federal LNP doesn't support the rights of indigenous people. Let's just on with it and give the indigenous people of this country equality in the constitution then give them treaty in their respective lands. Only then will they be considered equal.

The Aussies are doing exceptionally well in the Comm Games but we did expect them to dominate as we usually do. And we have the GOAT in Emma Mckeon and she isn't done yet. Plus it looks like we found our next star in the pool in the form of Mollie O'Callaghan. The depth in the Aussie swim team remains strong so the future is looking good. The athletics however needs work. We just aren't that good at running. White people just don't have the genes. The best runners in the UK, Canada, US etc are all black. We need new blood. White people should just stick to team sports.

Purchased a new video game as a filler till the ones I really want come out later in the year. Was surprised by this new game Horizon Forbidden West. The scenery reminds me of Witcher 3, it is beautiful. Like watching a movie except everything wants to either kill you or eat you. The combat is rather good as well, not as good as Witcher 3. The main character doesn't have any defence. Waiting for the next God of War and Elder Scrolls which seems to be on the never never schedule. No point in giving a teaser if the game never comes out. Like getting previews for movie that never gets made.

Lots of rain predicted for Melbourne from tomorrow onwards into next week. No plans to go anywhere so won't bother me too much. And what a shame I can't get to the mowing with all that rain. Guess I'll just have to spend time on the couch playing video games. Decided it's time to make more pizzas and no not a pineapple in sight, lots of chilli and Sopressa though and anchovies.

Hope the rest of the week is good for you.

I am feeling very positive today. As in positively tested and infected with covid. My entire body aches.
Have a friend who picked up COVID at work now she can't smell or taste anything. I'm sure lots more people will get COVID just by doing normal stuff like going to the shops so you have lots of company. Would give you a hug but with whole social distancing thing the best I can do is flowers 💐, also couldn't the hug emoji thingey.

It's like one of those 'bring out your dead' skits here at the moment. Hubby has it too. I spent the night with cold sweats and fevers and he stole blankets then kicked them off probably going through the same. At least i can work from home to a degree. If my head stops pounding long enough for me to string coherent thoughts together. Daughter had the gall to rant about the washing not being done and her horses bandages not being changed... In my defence, the face ripping she endured was courtesy of my own frustration and pain. Pampered little ingrate. Anyhow. working on new syllabus stuff for the principal. It's at least interesting and gives me somewhere to put my wasted energy. Hubby can't work from home. He's in a retail/production field so he's groaning around under the house swearing at old projects and tinkering. While seven days at home together sounds like a blessing, it would have been nicer if we were both well and not so damn grumpy.
Lambs are dropping at the moment. They're always fun to watch gamboling. A great distraction for a cloudy mind. At this stage we should have six stocky little killers in winter next year. Beats buying it from the shops.
Oh well, better go complete my time captures and do this teams thing which is basically my boss just checking what sort of dressing gown i'm wearing today.

For me covid itself was fine. I had a bit of a cough and runny nose. But in the 12 weeks since I have had a persistent cough and runny nose getting worse in the last couple of weeks. I am on antibiotics now which seem to be helping.

Well before COVID if anyone said they were working from home it was code for a day off. If you wanted to contact them they were never available "working from home". If you're sick then you're sick which means you use sick leave not just keep working from home. As for your boss checking up on you at home via video link well that's not on either. When you're better you'll get back to them.

Afternoon all,

Well the weather didn't play it's part this week so I ran out of excuses not to do the mowing. The grass is still wet due to the dew on these cold mornings so the grass didn't cut that well and clogged up the mower a bit. Has been down to 2 degrees in the morning in my part of Melbourne. Now they are predicting that the rain will be coming either tonight or by tomorrow which is supposed to last most of next week. We'll see if that is right.

So petrol prices dropped again last week by another 20c/L. The war in Ukraine is still going on so why the drop in petrol prices given the war in Ukraine was given as the reason for petrol prices to rise to unreal high prices. Given the petrol excise discount will come off next month you can bet petrol companies will use that as an excuse to hike prices up again by above the 21c. It's nothing but price gouging. I don't intend to fill up till I need to. Only travelling locally so have plenty in the tank for my needs this month.

I guess England is still pissed that the Aussies was on top of the gold medal tally at the Comm Games. The Aussies did amazingly well in the Athletics. Hoare came from nowhere to win and how good is Bol given he came 7th in Worlds just a few weeks ago. The closing ceremony brought memories of the music. All up the Aussie Comm Games team did an excellent job, but it's what we now expect from our athletes. Good to see that the disabled athletes were included. The Olympics needs to find a way to do the same even it means the games are extended by a week. The Para Olympics always suffers from less ticket sales and a diminished spectator level. The para wheelchair marathon was marked by the lack of spectators which was not the case for the able bodied marathons.

Two female music icons passed away in the last few days. I was a bit young for Judith, but was in high school when Grease hit the screens. Whist they are now gone their music will endure for generations.

So Rump got raided which is such a laugh. People will be saying it's about time. He was known for ripping up official govt docs. It's a practice from a man who is paranoid that doesn't want any links to his actions. It is against the law to remove classified docs from govt agencies and take them to your private residence. Same law applies here. So Rump knew the law but like with everything in his life he doesn't believe the law applies to him. Apparently the DOJ asked Rump to hand over the docs months ago and looks like he refused. You can also bet he shredded some of those docs which have records of his actions. That is a criminal offence. One thing for sure when Rump passes away the various banks he owes will come looking for their money. Love to see that. The FBI knew they would cop a lot heat for their actions so they wouldn't of acted on a whim.

Loving these lazy days just watching the day go by. No major tasks till next month so I'm just going to enjoy the next few weeks. Now that the Comm Games is over I've gone back to my normal sleep times.

Hope the rest of the week is good for you.

Apart from getting stranded in Adelaide by Qantas earlier in the week. It has been pissing down here for three days then a fine one, on repeat. Sunday I discovered the plum blossoms were out so thats a good sign that spring is around the corner. Then rain again. We have had the month's average rainfall in the past 9 days, which for this end of the world is remarkable. As is the snow on top of the Stirling Ranges further south. It all means it is heading over to the east next so hold your galoshes.

I have the odd situation of a fencing contractor who pulled down three quarters of a fence in the rain yesterday, but hasn't turned up today in the blue sky at all. Dog can't go out into the back yard so he's grumpy about shitting in the front yard on a leash so he doesn't go wandering. I have no word from this bloke why he didn't turn up or when he is going to finish the job.

Tourism mustn't be too bad over here at present. I had to hire a car for the day tomorrow for guests coming in and they wanted $130 for a Toyota Yaris. That's criminal. I could get a mine-spec Hilux dual cab with roll cage for $55 so they might be in for a surprise at their chariot for the day. Toyota have a new hire car business where the app gives you a code that opens the car by bluetooth and fuel is included via a fuel card in the glove box. You just pick it up and leave it at designated parking bays all over the place. I couldn't get my head around that so passed until I find out from someone else what the experience is like.

Howdy everybody, young guy from Victoria here, mustn't talk too loud or we'll wake the yankees at this time of day...

Currently "enjoying" university placements and the 7-day work week that comes with it - It only just hit me that I haven't had a day off in about a month.

How bad are the airport delays exactly? I've been in the dark about them for a while but a few people are telling me the whole system is more or less gridlocked for the immediate future. I'm glad I don't travel much otherwise I'd be so ticked off.
Welcome to the thread. Best way for people to get to know you is post stuff that's going on in your life. Can be good or bad.

Afternoon all,

Well petrol was down again last week down to $1.54 in my area probably cheaper a couple of suburbs away. That's the cheapest it has been all year and down by 30c/L on the previous week. No doubt with the school holidays coming up next month there will be a double price hike. Might be tempted to do a splash and dash, even though I've got half a tank left.

Just about every time I've been on the other side of the city I've had to deal with road works, so I thought I wouldn't need to deal with that staying on my side of the city. But now I can't drive down the street without encountering road works. The fucking things have followed me. In general the road works around Melbourne have been going on for too long. It seems that they will never end.

Well China showed it's true colours. Left the Press Club journalists stunned by the threats put forward by the ambassador. If anyone in China said those things in China they would of been arrested. In fact ABC journalists were expelled from China for reporting the truth. It was interesting that some in the media who support China tried to spin that speech as just a difference in culture and a misunderstanding by the western press because of the difference in language. The old "me no speak the English" thing. Any Chinese govt spokes person is well versed in English, they just think that western countries are dumb. Western and European countries could hurt China's economy by simply removing their manufacturing from the country. China doesn't design anything it just makes stuff cheaper because of the very low wages in China for the average worker. That's the only reason why things are made in China. It's got nothing to do with better quality goods that were made in western countries.

The issue with Slomo running his own secret cabinet just keeps getting bigger. Clearly the man was drunk on power. None of this was documented as per proper process. There is a system for this stuff but it seems Slomo wasn't one for process. There are lots of questions yet to be answered on this. The bullshit reason that it was because of the pandemic is just spin by Slomo and his mates. The fact that some Nat's MP's were in on it and didn't tell their own leadership is another issue. It's not only an undermining of the parliamentary system, it's against the faith people put in politicians to follow the rules. There are processes in place when minister's duties are required to be done by others, so there is no justification for what Slomo did and worst of all he kept it secret. As for the GG well he needs to be replaced. The position of the GG is now compromised. So what is the point of that job other than a rubber stamp for the govt to give it's action legitimacy. Might as well not have it. If it was a Labour govt who did this the Murdoch press would make this front page news and Sky News would be going off. But nothing except from the press in Canberra. The real question is what is did these MP's get from Slomo in return for their silence and what tax payers dollars were used by Slomo under his secret cabinet.

It's been a rainy day timetable since yesterday and the worst of it is coming later in the week. Was very windy yesterday which meant rain was on the way although that rain was coming from the east. The new lot of rain is coming from the west. No major tasks this week except to do the weekly grocery shop. With the underground car park, no need to get wet taking things back to the car. Hopefully this week the down escalator works. Had to walk the shopping around the car park last time only to find out there was a lift somewhere I could of used.

Hope the rest of the week is good for you.

Sad. Depressed. Over it. Almost two years and the policy of our state government here in Victoria clearly isn't working. The last few days have been the highest number of cases and deaths since the pandemic began. I won't get political, just wanted to vent as my beautiful town has become a prison and the laughing stock of the world. Sadder than that, buildings are empty, business are going under left right and centre and the mental health statistics are not even allowed to be published anymore.

Very sad.
He is a scumbag andrews. Hard to not be political who would of thought this a decade or two ago?

At this point if you get another jab you are braindead...Melbourne is dying.
My double and one triple vaxxed freind got it again.
I've never had it.
Greetings Victoria.

It seems the protection you get from infection is quite low as soon as six weeks after your most recent vax. There does still seem to be some good protection from serious illness though.

Afternoon all,

Well the end of another week and it has been a wet one here in Melbourne town. Needed to get out and about this week for most of the week but managed to avoid the wet stuff. It either rained before I was out or after I got back. Been lots of rain at night. Having a few days of less showers but the ground is still very wet. Expecting some heavy stuff to start off next week.

Is interesting how the LNP keeps making excuses for Slomo. They are more concerned with their brand than the truth which is why they lost the election. So focused on themselves and power they forgot the people who voted for them last time around. When they say the LNP is a broad church seems they meant it's a church with their own god who it seems was Slomo in his delusional state of believing he was sent by god to be the saviour of the country. Yet another narcissist who didn't trust anyone around him. The royal commission into the Robodebt thing will be interesting since it had devastating impacts on people's lives which the LNP believes was resolved by throwing money at people. For most people who went thru that it's still raw and were traumatised by it and in one case someone took their own life because of it. No amount of money is going to take that pain away.

So petrol is back up to just under $2 again this week. Went from $1.51 last week to $1.95 this week. Why...who the fuck knows. Shows the price of petrol is just some arbitrary figure dreamt up by petrol companies. Has nothing to do with world events. Will be travelling across the city next week so will be on the look out for cheaper prices on the other side of city. It even changes by suburb, so it's just a made up figure.

Got a nice surprise with the latest rates in the fact that the property value has gone back to pre-COVID prices even with the latest interest rate rises. Wasn't expecting that. The rates themselves went up obviously but the jump in property price was a nice surprise, but if you only watched the news you would think that house prices have gone down. Not in my case and it seems in my neighbourhood.

Barnaby was at his babbling best on the TV again. He knew about Slomo's new powers but didn't want to rock the boat. So democracy not really his thing provided he gets more power. Can't blame the Canberra bubble it's just the calibre of what we call politicians who thankfully are no longer calling the shots. We still don't know what actually went on in the halls of parliament during this time. Who knew what and which public servants were in on it. So it's not just pollies which corrupted the system, they had help from the mechanisms within parliament.

Got the tax done this week and even though I went in person I still needed to do the digital signature thing which really doesn't make sense given it's not your actual signature. Also had the second booster. Happy to have the jab and yes for the naysayers out there it won't stop me getting COVID but the chances of dying from COVID are greatly diminished. People get the flu jab every year and they still get sick. Seen more people wearing masks in the shops. Mainly the older generation once again. Not a fan of the mask but will mask up when required. Seen that some workers are wearing masks in the shops. The supermarket workers are kinda hit and miss. Some on the check out wear them, some don't. COVID isn't going anywhere anytime soon so if you want COVID then mix with lots of people and then go and infect your family and friends. You'll be part of the herd...and we know what we do to herds in this country.

Hope the weekend is good for you

At this point if you get another jab you are braindead...Melbourne is dying.
My double and one triple vaxxed freind got it again.
I've never had it.
Greetings Victoria.
Wait...Melbourne is dying...nobody told me. Well at least I won't have to worry about catching COVID and I can shop in peace. Will make getting thru the check out a breeze. And those fucking road works will stop. Thank fucking Christ for COVID.

It seems the protection you get from infection is quite low as soon as six weeks after your most recent vax. There does still seem to be some good protection from serious illness though.
Yep as the saying goes...what doesn't kill you....will probably kill your nanna.

Mad bloody week. There are things in compliance in this country that were clearly designed by consulting companies to generate more work. Anti-money laundering auditing... Everything good but there will be a 10k bill from KPMG for their assistance. Sometimes there are more people holding their hands out and clipping the ticket than there are buyers and sellers and do-ers.

Not looking forward to a month of travel in September. Should see the totals of the airfares... Problem is that if you want to charge $1000 each way from Perth then I expect $1k service, gold plated. $1500 back of the bus to Singapore is ludicrous, its closer than Sydney. It was cheaper for a bunch of folks to come from the east via Bali, so we are back to those levels again.

On the good side, its been 23 and sunny here so a few sneaky midday swims at the beach before heading back to meetings. Hopefully that's winter just about done.

Apparently I need a new car to write off against tax. The car market is a bit depressing at the moment, nothing really takes my eye, or else you order it now and get it sometime before June next year. Modern problems. The Euro cars are a bit ho-hum. I did drive a KIA the other day, it had a bit of power. I have not had a Korean car yet.
