Scientists recently confirmed that they achieved a significant breakthrough in nuclear fusion.

The results of the breakthrough were published last week in three peer-reviewed journals. The experiments occurred at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's (LLNL's) National Ignition Facility (NIF) in California last year.

Nuclear fusion reactions are what power the sun and other stars. In a fusion reaction, two atoms collide with enough force that they fuse together to form a different atom. This process releases large amounts of energy as a by-product.

According to Discovery Magazine, nuclear fusion has been considered the “holy grail” of energy research almost since its existence was first theorized in the 1920s by English physicist Arthur Eddington.

Well....
We will See!
Indeed.

Not to diminish what was achieved but the Antares Project at Los Alamos achieved ignition back in the 1980's. The problem with the Antares project was that more power was required to cause the ignition that was realized, by a significant amount. Also the ignition was not sustained.

Perusing the Livermore paper it appears that they have another problem to solve. The heating in the containment vessel spiked dramatically. Had the experiment continued the containment vessel would have been severely damaged or destroyed. So they need to next figure out how to get that heat out of there and doing some work.

Yay ! I thought Livermore gave up on that “experiment” especially after the laser bay was used as the engine room for the Enterprise in Star Trek.

Obviously the next step is for dipshits to make up shit about nuclear fusion so that they can whine about it.

I'm thinking - "everyone knows that hazmat suits are useless" and "the IAEA changed it's definition of nuclear energy, so it's not real"
