I love music, but I've never really followed any one group or genre. For me it's all about what sounds good in the moment, so I often come off as clueless in conversations about bands and whatnot. I still have to google my favorite song just to recall it's name and who does it

That doesn’t matter, it’s the feeling it gives you that’s important. My music taste is pretty eclectic. I’m a music slut I like a bit of everything. I have certain genres I enjoy more but essentially, I love music from classical to rock to indy to country and folk.

At the beginning of every semester, my students have to fill out this tell-m-about-yourself activity...it's really just to make sure that they can get everything to work right. But I always ask about their favorite bands, because it's interesting plus sometimes I get great recommendations. Or figure out who the kindred spirits are! But it always confuses me if they say, I don't have a favorite band, or I don't listen to music. I do not understand a life like this!

Eughhh I don’t, I’m more sure about myself now than I’ve ever been. I like being older, I’d hate to be a young person now, so much pressure. Whereas for me, being older I don’t feel the need to fit into any mold. Although, I’ve never been much of a follower.

That's what I meant, though, it is incomprehensible to me personally that people are totally not into music! Just because, to me, it's such a thing.

It's also possible that they don't care about the assignment, but this part is actually voluntary; it's just a suggested question to make sure that they can upload files correctly, so if they don't care, they don't have to answer anything. That doesn't happen often, though.

I am the worst person in the world with tell-me-about-yourself activities, and have managed to avoid working for a company which includes psychometric tests of any kind. I have this awful reflex response of "Why am I going to tell YOU that?" which probably explains why I failed the exams for the UK diplomatic service at a fairly early stage. But yes, there are people for whom music doesn't matter. And people who just like the sound it makes.

I know. It just doesn't compute with my brain!

I hate that kind of exercise, too, on the whole, so this is kind of a good question because it's not personal exactly. It's just a question to answer to see if everything is working for them. But I'd say that 95% of them love this question in one way or another, because they give me very detailed answers even when they just need to write a line. It's more interesting for me to read than what their major is and such.
