Bring back glad handletie kitchen bags! (A.k.a. The lack of topic variety in the forums)

Actually, I just wanted a new topic of discussion here, because it feels as if there hasn’t been a fresh topic in ages.

So as critical to our survival as posts about scoring, underage story rejections, loving wives trolls, rules enforcement, and lack of comments are, let’s find something new to discuss for a change of pace.

And this is a good one! Glad handleties have been discontinued. “This is a outrage,” I’m sure Johnny Cochran would say, if he were still here.

The other types are terrible. The stretchy flex bags trap air as you put them in the can/bin so you can’t make them flush against the bin when you put the bag in. If you have lots of lightweight trash, the air pressure trapped between the bin and the outside of the bag doesn’t release. They blow. Wait. They don’t blow. But for a trash bag that’s bad.

The ones with the four flaps aren’t tall enough if your can/bin is the slightly taller narrower style. Not long enough.

And the drawstring types, don’t even get me started on how the drawstrings stretch when you want to take a full bag out. They should be withdrawn.

That leaves us with Glad Handle ties. They were perfect. And now they’re gone.

I’m starting a petition. Who’s with me?

Do you have lovecraft on ignore or something? LOL He's actively starting new, interesting, writing related topics on a regular basis. Sweet Witch still pops in to revive her quirky threads fairly regularly. There are plenty of others.

The done-to-death topics were already done to death 20 years ago. It's always been that way.

No opinion on handle ties, but Betty Crocker should be brought up on charges for discontinuing Bacos. Closest thing is McCormick and they're not quite the same. Plus, they've become frustratingly difficult to obtain — especially the bits version. All anybody has is the chips.

Oh, and Campbells for fucking with Sirloin Burger soup. They already had a healthy choice option, and still decided to fuck up the original with health consciousness virtue signaling. You make canned soup, you doucebags. The whole foods people are going to call you death merchants no matter what you do. Stop sucking the joy out of life for the rest of us.

I'll sign your petition if you'll sign mine demanding Burger King get ice machines that put out more than one cube at a time.
It’s a deal. ;-)

Speaking of Burger King. This goes back a few years, but there was a period of time where the whopper was 99 cents. Medium drink 99 cents. Medium fries 99 cents.

But the whopper combo meal consisting of medium drink and medium fries was $2.99. They stole two cents from us all every time a combo was sold!

“Overcharged by two cents? You must recompense!” Dammit. I still miss Johnny Cochran.

Wait. What?? Sirloin burger is gone? Dammit!

If you put an empty or full box in the bottom of the bag as you insert and before you stretch it around, it won't have air trapped. Then you can remove the box and save it for next time. That's what I do.

Bring back gluten-free tomato soup! It used to be just tomatoes and spices. Or gluten-free soups in general. Everybody has to thicken theirs with wheat flour now. Even Healthy Choice.

Not a problem for me, but my wife needs GF and is finding less and less on supermarket shelves that doesn't have added wheat, while at the same time the GF section shrinks, at least at our local supermarkets. Very frustrating.

I would think that the bigger problem is that the closest thing isn't bacon.

Damn! A forum titled "Author's Hangout" that has threads on things to do with writing? WTF???

I used to just like to tie them up using the sides, but then something happened. I got confused by which kind of trash I was taking out.

Move to the UK, almost all supermarkets have a full range of trash bags from drawstring, tie handles, plain in a variety of sizes to fit the bins you use etc.

Perhaps it would suit you better if were titled, Writing in an age where there are no gland handletie kitchen Bags!

When we move house, we use large drawstring bags for holding clothes and linen. I hate it when the drawstring pulls out of the bag...

Nobody is blocked btw. Threads of a certain nature seem to circle back to a predictable pattern though, so there are some I may tend to skip past much of the time.

Un-axe-septable (coneheads voice). ;-)

Handleties are perfect. No air pressure whatsoever. No tricks needed. Thanks (I’m trying a new brand (not a lot of choices out there.). To be fair, they seem just as good. Cheaper too. But there’s nostalgia. Tom Bosley’s soothing voice from the commercials when they first came out. )

Look closely at progresso. Not all of them by any stretch, but some are gf. Certainly more so than Campbell’s. Not even relegated to the gf section, their regular products gf just from non-contamination. (Pick on Campbell’s day. I like it!)

I reserve the right to say “all” and “every” and “none” or “never” for creative license, whether it’s accurate or not. The topics I listed do seem to represent a majority of posts, specially recently. (It could be the seeming 3 a week age threads where it used to be 1 a week? Also, Thanks btw for joining me on the crotchety bandwagon. Here’s some hay to sit on, the seat is hard.)

Stop labeling things!!!! Wahhhhhhhhhh

Sorry, couldn't help it

Take a look at clear plastic drum liners. Life changing. (I just had a mini-O thinking about drum liners with handle ties. No such thing though.)

Use an empty paper towel or tp roll at the back of the bin between the bag, it'll crush down for lids, but still allows the extra air to escape.
Your tip and Millie’s are good and valid. Thanks. But…. Handleties for 13 gallon/49 liter kitchen bins are a trashcendental experience, a world where no retrobinnings are needed!

Thanks for the replies all

Absolutely. It ain't no fun unless, occasionally you put on your tennies and poke the bear.
