Do you get an extra erotic thrill by reading or writing a story that combines overt eroticism with another activity that's not essentially erotic, maybe because you enjoy doing it or you like thinking about it or it makes the sex hit closer to home?

I do. Although my stories are not generally based on real things I've experienced, they do incorporate activities I enjoy or have experience with, such as:

1. Cooking--it's a sensual, hedonistic activity (although it takes some attentiveness and discipline to do it well) that I enjoy and that meshes well with sex, I think.
2. Running--sweating, skimpy clothing, fit bodies, and the potential for public exposure. Working out at the gym has a similar appeal.
3. Hiking in the mountains--similar to running, with the additional element of being isolated and possibly free of society's constraints.
4. Working in an office or similar environment--not necessarily a "fun" activity, but it can work well with erotica precisely because of the constraints it places on people's behavior, and the voyeuristic dynamics involved in working under the watchful eyes of others all the time.

Anybody else think this way?

Close. I have fond memories of a friend who insisted I help her wash the dishes after she fixed a nice meal for the two of us. Sadly, I didn't get the hint that she wanted more than clean dishes. OTOH, I really liked this lady and was well-aware that at the time I had problems making the transition, ruining the friendship once sex was in the picture. I valued her friendship more. Yes, she was "the one who got away." :(

I've written an erotic sequence in a supermarket, including a panty drop in the third aisle. And vegetables, sharp knives. And another story with fruit.

Not running, but several stories with swimming, especially swimming nude in surf, with the rush of body surfing.

Funny that you should mention No.3. I'm.currently writing a voyeur story, exactly that.

I've got two stories (one is a variant of the other) sexualising a speaker at a conference, where a woman in the audience pays as much attention to the speaker as to the topic. After the conference, there's a dinner, then a hotel room in another city.

EB looks at Simon, before backing away slowly. Scary, innit, that we think alike. Both of us, even, think your mom is sexy...

I can relate. I didn't "get the hint" on more than one occasion.

Your reference to washing the dishes made me think of the car washing scene in Cool Hand Luke, which is a perfect example of a non-erotic activity turned into one of the sexiest scenes in cinema.

I've written all those. It's great fun.

A lot of my stories take place in what should be completely non-sexual situations. That's part of the thrill, for me.

Most recent was a mage using her magic for cleaning purposes directing the air sprites doing the cleaning with slow ballet-like moves

I wonder sometimes if almost anything non-sexual can turn sexual in the right context. I like your list, a corollary to the cooking is just food and eating - I think of the scene in the film version of Fieldings' Tom Jones where Tom is sharing a meal with Mrs. Fitzpatrick - as steamy and erotic a scene as was possible with clothes on and nothing but the food, eating, and the actors' expressions.

A chess match factored heavily as an erotic fulcrum in one of my stories.

An earlier love and I used to use dental flossing as foreplay...

1. Horseback ridding
2. Motorcycle or bike ridding
3. Slow dancing like a waltz or formal dance (touching and feeling lead to arousal)
4. Wating tables in a restaurant or bar
5. Psychological or religious counseling gone awry
6. Telephone sales representative that has a phone trist
7. Legal assistant becomes obsessed with a rapist while the lawyer and her work with him on his defense

When I'm writing, I love turning everyday things into sexual encounters. I've done it with cooking in 'Banging Around the House', where he lifts her onto the counter and dinner has to wait. And things get kind of steamy when her neighbor is cooking her a Valentine's dinner in a 'Twist of Fate', and she gives him a playful hip bump, while he feeds her little bites of what he's cooking. Shopping for a wedding dress turns sexy in 'Bad Kitty' where, in the fitting room, he has to get past miles and miles of fabric to claim his prize. Similar thing happens in 'Fantasy Fulfilled' where he takes his lady up against the door in the fitting room because they're just so hot for each other that they can't wait. And they both have fun making out in the pool and later in the kitchen in 'Taking Care of Mom'. Things get steamy pretty fast while checking out the work done on her new kitchen in 'Finally', where he takes her up against the kitchen counter, after only just meeting her, which starts their relationship off with a bang. Of course working in an office presents so many opportunities. There were some pretty erotic encounters in 'Making Heather's Dreams Come True' with several different guys in the office, and of course in 'Sharing with the Office', he's more than happy to share what he's been blessed with. The possibilities are endless, and can lead to some pretty erotic fun.

Oh and hairdressing of course. The hairdresser turning around the client, their body close to the client's face, the furtive touches as they lean over, their belly touching the client's shoulder...

... sorry, having a moment.

Sure, it's a basic approach to writing erotica. Think up an innocuous setting/situation and contemplate how you can pull erotica out of it.

I actually just joined a gym a few weeks ago and have actually found myself enjoying the exercise.

And, being honest, the eye candy.

I'm seriously trying not to be the Creepy Old Guy staring at the women. I try to apply the Seinfeld Rule of looking: glance, then look away lol.

My latest story is mostly about music, with some sex in there as well. As I was writing it i endeavored to capture the sensuality of watching someone perform onstage.

Cooking (preferably being cooked for) by the right person can be good, like fore-foreplay.
Getting a good sweat on at the gym, or swimming, loads of endorphins floating around your body... yeah.

Hiking up a mountain? No way. I go nowhere that doen't have good network coverage!

Anna Taylor-Joy in The Queen's Gambit is the one to watch.

Yes!

The book describes Beth as unattractive. The series decided to glam her up, but in a way in which she's still somewhat unusual looking. They knew what they were doing.

I'd like to do a story that features a sexy "Go" game. I like the erotic combination of intelligence, competition, and sex.

Wine drinking tend to precede sex in my stories. I find the act of sharing a good bottle in an intimate setting to be very erotic.
