Educator Roll Call

I had no idea this thread existed.
I used to teach University level physics. It's so cool to y'all here.

I ended my career as a yearbook advisor…. Loved it and hated it. 9 years of it.

What is unfortunate is I don’t feel there has been a huge loss I academic learning but instead a huge deficit in their social skills, ability to stay focused and follow rules. The pandemic has had an impact far reaching for the younger generation.
O yas, many need counselling, lost social skills, etc. But my WSJ has seen studies showing loss or delayed academic skills. My kid teaches inner-city English, says they are 90% illiterate.

All my students are so tentative. Nobody is fearless anymore.

Fearlessness can be a problem, classroom-management-wise, but the discussions are so good. This year, all my classes are oddly quiet. They've been conditioned by distance learning and constant masking, I think, and there's a fragility surrounding their engagement with each other.

It's too bad.
