Actually it is the best place to be. Up on stage, seeing everything going on, but you don’t have to make small talk and feel awkward. I wasn’t the one out front talking to the crowd.

I think this is much more common than people realize. I know a very popular contra dance caller. He loves what he does, but it takes a lot out of him (a lot more people contact than normal being on stage positions). Until I got to know him I had no idea he's an introvert.
