Not all doctors have good bedside manners. But i would prefer a capable doctor to a polite one

Some days I feel this way too - about myself. And then other days I am like fuck I really need to dress better!

well I am not one to ask about fashion or even offer advice on how men should dress. I prefer men undressed. or dressed down lol.

Luckily that seems to be changing with the times. I remember when having visible tattoos was something that would possibly effect your employment. Now everyone has a shit ton of them. Except me. I don’t have any. Now employers have to be careful they don’t “discriminate” against anyone or anything. Which has also gotten a bit over the top

Yeah there’s gotta be a middle ground … I like that tattoos are being more acceptable because they are just art … displayed on your body.

In my experience it necessarily isn't, and many top-notch pros actually do look the part, as they understand it's part of their image.

oh yes, you can be good and look the part. but you can't not look the part and still be there if you aren't good.

exactly. Have you noticed the best specialized surgeons have the worst bedside manner, but hey they are the best at what they do.

I've met plenty of those, too. Some bosses are bad at getting rid of them, and sometimes it just hasn't happened yet. And getting rid of them can be difficult unless they do actual mistakes.

Heck, my last boss was both dressing sloppy AND not being very competent. He just happens to be the son of the founder of the company, and at this point the CEO. Also his manners could be better...

Unfortunately, there are plenty of people who still judge others based on appearance. I prefer to look my best, without sacrificing too much comfort. I haven’t looked my best since my freaking 20s though

Here they DO need a reason to fire you. Either it's because you screwed bad enough, or then it is financial or production reasons, in which case it usually means they are firing a bunch at the same time, for example 15% of all employees.

I think that it depends on how you do it, and of course, it also depends on the job and the climate. Goes without saying that many things have become far more acceptable than when I was first on the job market.

But my students are mostly econ/business/accounting, and in that world, it's less acceptable. Actually, my rule of acceptable business dress is mostly, "if they remember what you were wearing, you weren't doing it right." I think that the same thing is true for ink and piercings...if I remember your ink/piercings, then it's probably not acceptable conservative business dress. I don't really disagree with that, in a way, because when you work for someone else, you're their representative. Within reason.
