Chaotic Coffee Klatch (tea also available)

a Friend of O/ours (yes the One with the gf near chicago) studied translation and cultural studies and He always says that clothes are part (and He very much emphasizes on this word) of communication as they're part of first signals (together with body language): say you're going to your local bank to open an account there (and you've never been there before) and the person who is supposed to take care of your account is wearing very comfy clothes such as say a much too small t-shirt and some overly tight swim trunks (that leave nothing to guess) and flip-flops so would you trust them to handle your money?
I would. but you haven't seen my bank account.

color analysis,

hum, pants black because black. Anything that extends uptop should be brightly colored or patterned as it is a miracle if I make it through the day without spilling something on my boobs, so at least it matches. That is my analysis for myself
I made it through my Italian family dinner (think red sauce) wearing a white shirt last weekend without spilling a thing!!!! This has never happened before and will never happen again

The problem is there for me too! Some years I buy very little, except for replacing old underwear, and some years I by all the more. (I usually always have something I can wear for weddings etc, so that I don't have to panic when nothing in shops please me. Of course it means I need to stay in the same size... sometimes tricky)

Finding a seamstress can also be a good idea.
I used to have a lady that would “edit” my clothing for me. I even got her to take in jeans! But that was a long time and many dollars ago

But still … why do we interpret some clothing as “professional” … to me it’s just so strange. I’m just as capable or intelligent as my coworker regardless of what we’re wearing

honestly, I am the reverse. I think if they can get away with not looking the part, their skills and intelligence are likely higher, as they can get away without looking the part lol.

Even you use the expression "not looking the part".
yup, there is a ton of bullshit masks to fit bullshit roles that were implement long ago for some bullshit reason. I prefer the people who do not look or act the part of the role, as their skill is likely phenomenal or someone would have gotten them out years prior.

In my experience it necessarily isn't, and many top-notch pros actually do look the part, as they understand it's part of their image.

I’m grateful my job requires a black company polo shirt and black pants. And no one gives me shit about my converse all stars. If not for that, i would be late every day trying to pick out an outfit. The downside is I don’t look good in black

or they want you to think that and take care of your best (ie your money)
maybe, but I have been in corporate america a long time. In my experience, lack of conformity especially to direct rules will not be tolerated that long, unless your work is that tight, they don't think they can replace you with someone as skilled. Even in black and white, rules are bent and twisted in ways that prove to be the most profitable, and that swings both ways.

Luckily that seems to be changing with the times. I remember when having visible tattoos was something that would possibly effect your employment. Now everyone has a shit ton of them. Except me. I don’t have any. Now employers have to be careful they don’t “discriminate” against anyone or anything. Which has also gotten a bit over the top

I want to read this book because I’m sure there are millions of things I overlook on the daily in how women are living in a world designed by and for men.

That's a good one. Still haven't finished it, though. (I think I was in the middle of reading it when my husband got his diagnosis... haven't read anything serious since)

Just in the beginning the part about the language isn't as well thought of as all the rest. The writer doesn't know enough about all the languages she's writing about, it doesn't all match.
