I agree. I think that the primary thing that would need to change to make this situation more prevalent is men's attitudes. If my wife has sex with a friend who treats her and I with respect it is a great experience for all. But if the guy is inclined to think he is getting one over on me or hold her in lower regard then it just doesn't work.

I agree with what you're saying, but I do take exception to it being men's attitudes that need to change. My previous marriage was open. We had fairly relaxed boundaries but they were well defined. We found the most common source of issue to be that of some women I partnered with.
Despite my clear communication with them regarding my marital situation - more than once, I was faced with the reality that they were attempting to "get one over" on my wife... Amongst other nefarious actions, some would go so far as to torment my wife or at the very least make her jealous once the deed was done. It was as if they believed they could "steal" me away from her just because we had sex.
More often than not, I found my wife's lovers to be very respectful of the situation. Of those I met, I never once felt threatened or disrespected.
Not saying you're wrong, but I would caution anyone to understand that a healthy mentality regarding non-monogamy needs to be in place for everyone involved.

This is a major factor in the sidetrack my relationship took. My father had his nose rubbed in my mother's cheating. My hubby's first wife was a real piece of work. Both men have very non-jealous, open hearts but gaurd them and their relationships closely now. As much as hubby and i would love to open things up further we don't want the complications. Fair enough. I referenced “men’s” attitudes because that is what is relevant to me as a husband. But perhaps I should have said the other person. You are quite right that all parties involved need to have a healthy grown up mentality and I don’t think that either gender is necessarily more (or less) inclined or able to do that.
