Said nothing about church goers, or exploring sexuality. However, being raised (and now an escapee of) southern baptist, I'm referring to the church elders who sit around and judge everyone else, all while drinking their alcohol from plastic cups so no one can see what's inside.

People of walks do that.... don't have to be a church elder, to point flaws in others while covering your own up. The new secular woke religion is very good at that as well.

As a white person, I believe it is my responsibility to educate myself on the history of racism and oppression in my country and elsewhere and to do my best to be an ally whenever I can. Like KL, I have never found the need to ever use racial slurs, but I am certain that I cannot know or comment when people of color are comfortable using such words in their own friend groups. These topics are difficult to engage in with people that you trust to assist you in struggling to come to terms with unconcious racial bias and white privilege, the impacts of racism in day to day life and the toll that takes on people of color. In fast paced Lit Land where context and tone is lost in our keyboards, I hesitate to engage on the open boards as it does not seem to meaningfully contribute to education and is more likely than not to cause pain, harm and resistance.

Are you saying simply saying or using the word slut (or replace this with any of the others you said) in your opinion toward another makes it a slur? I could call someone a dumb slut and equally replace “slut” with fuck or ass. So in context was he calling her a skank because she sleeps around or because he thought she was being a pretty big dumb ass?

A racial slur used by anyone other than a Black person doesn’t get the privilege of having a double meaning to me. It’s not just offensive language. It’s a word deeply rooted in racism and a painful fucking history that we have not and will not heal from because of bs coddling like this.

I am a biracial person. I grew up facing racism from both sides. It was my Korean mother who made sure I was confident in who I am and my race. My daughter is Chinese and in these times of Asian hate it’s my responsibility to make sure my daughter is comfortable and confident in her skin.
