A bachelor's degree for lead stock boy.... if only we had such rigorous standards for presidential candidates, though in the opposite way - no one can run for president if they haven't worked & lived on minimum wage.
Apologies - I'll briefly stop being glib. This makes me very sad. There was a plan here to have 50% of kids leave full time education with a university degree, which was sold as a combination of upskilling the work force and helping social mobility. Except it didn't, of course. Nobody bothered to expand the number of available graduate jobs, all those who had previously been able to go to the best schools and get the best degrees continued to do so, and the rest were left with qualifications which served no purpose. Such a waste.

The system is broken.

That's very true... we're so fixated on "liberal arts" education in the U.S. I know in other countries, it's not the same... I want to say maybe in the UK and maybe Australia & New Zealand, most bachelor's degrees are only 3 years, with a fourth year only if you're planning to go to graduate school. Someone from any of those places please correct me if I'm wrong!
I got my B.S in 2 yrs 6 months😁
