Has anyone from Lit been discovered and published?

Some of the works I have read I would gladly pay for.

Which makes me wonder, has anyone been discovered here on Lit, and went on to publish real books?

Several authors here self-publish in the paid market and I know at least one author who founded her own publishing company. Others (like me) have a Patreon where those willing can leave tips.

I'm not sure what you mean by "discovered". There are quite a few people who post here and also publish "real books" on various sites, but I'm not sure discovered is the right word, since those sites don't generally approach authors here and solicit them to publish. What usually happens is that one day someone decides to put their works on one of those sites and see what happens.

That would be Selena Kitt, who, yes, I think sold very well and became a voice on the Internet on erotica publishing. (The publishing company was not supposed to be just hers--it was a consortium of several authors at Literotica, including me. The publishing house has now closed).

I am talking real books, with pages that you can hold.
I have more than 150 paperbacks out, including erotica under several names--and published by publishers. But I had print books out before I came here and started writing erotica. No, I haven't made a living out of them (nor do I need to).

There's such a thing as "print on demand". I know @electricblue66 and I have books you could buy on Lulu.com and get delivered as dead tree doorstops.

The delivery method is irrelevant in the end. I can guarantee that everyone who publishes here puts as much - or more! - work in their prose as the big names.

Well, maybe except the plagiarists who comb Lit and sell what they haven't created on amazon for a quick buck. Those assholes can eat shit and die.

A website in Germany offered to buy some of my stories, but wanted to own them outright. I asked if they'd consider owning them for 5-7 years, which I was told is the norm by another author who has lots of books in print. But they said all or nothing. Like a few other authors, I was also approached about turning two of my stories into audio books, but haven't heard anything since the pandemic started. Being on Lit, does get you noticed, and I'm sure other authors have been approached about selling their work, too.

Is this the future for discovery? Is it about having books of paper, or the money, or a publishing contract? I don't know, but I expect the routes to 'discovery' will change. I have over 30,000 e-books. I have none now, on paper, they line the walls of friends' homes and fill their portacabins. I don't miss them. I can pull a book out in 10 seconds if required.

I know of at least four from Lit that are writing in Mainstream at the moment. Three came from stories posted in the non erotic category, including me.

I bet some have, do, did, and are.

At the same time, when (ha!) I make it big, not a soul will know about my sordid secrets here. I bet I’m not alone.

I started here on Lit. I'm not sure if 'discovered' is the right word for it, but I've been offered work as a ghostwriter and contacted by several sites that ask me to sign contracts that virtually give away my books to them for lousy pay. And I've also had countless people copying and publishing my works on Amazon using their own pen names.

Needless to say, I got fed up and started publishing myself. These days it's so easy to self-publish both ebooks and paperbacks/hardcover that there's no need to wait for someone willing to do it for you. Still, readers seem to prefer the ebook format when they buy erotica. I only have a few sales of the paperbacks/hardcover editions while the ebooks account for about 99 % of my sales. But that's probably because of the genre.
