Unfortunately, I can't format output well for these forums, but I am going to build some data spreadsheets, or maybe a database, if anyone is interested.

It used to be possible to create tables in forum posts using vB code (now called BB code and described under "Help" at the very bottom of this page). However, the new forum style no longer interprets the code correctly and just shows it as code rather than as a correctly formatted table, That's what's happening in the post referenced by Heyall.

I imagine the site does intend to support BB code tables and will get around to implementing them fully eventually. That will be good, because there is a lot of interesting information in old posts by 8letters, myself, and others that is now virtually unreadable.

Might be another bug. The New list contains 882 stories from the last seven days. That's 11 pages at 75 stories/each plus 57 stories on page 12. It's about 112 stories/day, which is consistent with my recent checks.

That's what the Internet can do. If there are, what, 330 million people in the United States and eight billion in the whole world, and if only the tiniest percentage want to post stories online, well, this is one of the results. Nobody would have believed that this was possible thirty years ago.

The issue with the stats is, like Musk is finding out with Twitter, there's a lot of fluffing going on in most of the numbers here.
Wouldn't it be fun to discover most of the AH are bots?

You have to turn on Codes first. The last of the 3 dots beside the undo, will provide a dropdown with the two brackets [ ], click it and BB code will be turned on, now type you codes in the reply box, when done click it again.

You're talking about the two brackets in the menu bar of the reply box, I think. This seems to change the way that the formatted text is displayed in the box as you are editing it. In one mode, you can select bold and italics and other things using the icons in the menu bar. In the other mode, the icons are grayed out and you have to enter the codes manually (which is the way it used to be in the old forum style and is the way I'm used to). Then if you toggle the mode or press the Preview icon, it shows what your reply will look like with the formatting.

But this doesn't work for tables, as least for me. I can make a table using the table icon in the menu bar and it looks like a real table. Then if I toggle the mode it shows the code. But if I toggle the mode again, or press the Preview icon, or post my reply, it still shows the code, not the table.

I shouldn't be surprised, I suppose. If you press help at the bottom of the page and look at the BB code entry, the output it shows for the Table code looks like code rather than a formatted table. Work in progress, one would hope,

I've noticed this mostly on the list page boundaries. Some stories at the bottom of page 1, say, also appear at the top of page 2.

How does that account for the nearly factor-of-two difference? You counted 872 stories in fourteen days and the new list has 882 stories from the last seven days. Incidentally, the length of the New list varies a little as the day goes by.

Ah, looks like the kbd tag only works in stories, not the forums. The forums don't seem to allow html tags. There *is* a bb code tag for monospaced text, but it seems to be disabled on these forums.

I tried sending a message to myself to test it out without posting, but the forum software doesn't allow writing to myself.
