Bands you really loved but didn't make the big time...

Girls Against Boys.

Possibly my favoritist band ever. Indie forever, went to a major which was eaten by corporate, then back to an indie where they put out the best shit. Touring Europe now and putting new music out later this year.

I would say Head East does NOT count for this thread, not because they arent/werent a good band, but because they DID kinda make the big time; "Never Been Any Reason" is a classic rock staple even to this day.

Though I'd be hard pressed to name any other Head East song beyond that one.

Tonya Donelly's first band Belly were pretty good and should probably have been bigger than they were. Had they come out in 1995 versus 1992, (only three years earlier) they probably would have been right up there with other 90's alternative rock greats.

There was an early 80's band from California named Warlord who ALMOST got really, really big. Their songs "Winter Tears" and "Deliver Us" were played on commercial FM Radio stations all up and down the west coast and generally got really great reactions. They were an excellent band I remember that they were on Metal Blade records, an indie label more well known for stuff like Slayer, but Warlord were more of an eclectic hard rock band, more like Rush or Queensryche than any raging metal type stuff. Anyway, they did one album, then completely dropped off the face of the music scene after that.

Bar bands: Jack Mac and the Heart Attack

Starvin' Marvin and the Dexatrims

One I'm glad never made it (their format was their own worst enemy): Skinny Puppy

This is one of the best uplifting/upbeat songs.

The Clintons are a big deal band in Montana. They’ve been around over 20 years. Have put out several albums. Had a bit of national attention about 14 years ago when they wrote a love song about Hilary Clinton. It’s pretty good actually.
