Your Royals made asses of themselves in the Caribbean. 😂

Gravitas: A royal disaster: William & Kate in the Caribbean

"What the royal couple did in Belize: they danced with the locals, made chocolate. It was almost like a flashback to the 19th century, the noble British rulers visiting their subjects exploring the mysteries of the colonies.
If Belize was bad, Jamaica was worse: Prince William came decked in full military attire; the unusually big hats the awkward salute the sword hanging from his waist."

Locals' reactions? They asked for Slavery Reparations.

Only to be told they are ready for independence from Britain.:D

I've heard the Jamaicans are seriously considering abolishing the monarchy -- but I'm not clear on how that would make them any better off. If the system is anything like Canada's, the Queen does not even play the ceremonial and advisory role in government that she does in the UK, nor does her Governor-General.

Economically? No change. They would still be part of the Commonwealth of Nations but an independent republic with a President as head of state instead of the Queen. In Jamaica, the Queen is Head of State of Jamaica, a totally different role from her position as Head of State of the UK.

In practice, her duties in Jamaica are carried out by a Governor-General on her behalf and he would be appointed by discussion with the Jamaican government and would be Jamaican.

A Governor-General probably costs much less per year than a President, but unless the President has grandiose ideas of position and needs palaces for his role. the difference in cost to Jamaica should be minimal.

And why can't they be? It would mean no change in the UK's relationship with Jamaica. It was a diplomatic faux pas (and possibly rude but intended for internal political consumption) to use the visit as the time to announce it - that's all.

The actual effect of such an announcement during a royal visit is likely to turn individual Jamaicans against the government policy. How long would that last? Not long.

Jamaica, The Bahamas, Belize etc are and have been for some time, independent nations that have no duties or responsibilities to the UK. Like Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc, have the Queen as THEIR head of State - not the UK's Queen as their ruler, but Their Queen. If any Commonwealth Country wants to change their constitution to become a republic with a President - they can. It is their decision. They will still stay part of the Commonwealth Of Nations which is a loose association of like-minded countries. The change in their constitution will NOT affect their relations(if any) with the UK. It has to be ratified by the UK houses of Parliament but that would be a formality only. The decision is theirs and no one else's.

What duties?

I cringed every time I saw British Royals visit African and other countries.
All they did was dance or pretend-giggle in delight, , fully dressed in 20th-21st century clothes, with children and locals dressed in leaves or in 17th century bush attires.

Don't those organizers have any common sense, to realize how cringe-worthy and colonial that shit-show looks?

I sometimes wish the Queen were still Empress of India. It would make no practical difference, but it would be kewler.

I doubt the organizers tell anybody to show up in 17th-Century bush attire. And the local public officials usually wear business suits.

So what Royal duties is ogg reffering to?

The only incentives for those countries to remain in Commonwealth, are economic.

They should tell the Queen and her paedo offsprings to go fuck themselves,
because those 'charm offensive or diplomatic' dog-and poney shows that they perform each year are so offensive.

By the same token, I think India has lost something by eliminating all those resplendent native princes.

The Royals only visit a Commonwealth country IF the local government invites them. They do not say 'We should visit Jamaica this year'. They might ask 'Would you like a visit?' but only go if they are wanted.

Jamaica asked the royals to come and then treated the visit badly for domestic consumption.

The organisers of the visit programmes are the local country's government. Only they are responsible for what happens. If that's how they want their country to be portrayed? It's all their fault, NOT the royals.

aah, didn't know that.

Tbh I never minded your Royals,
even with the Meghan Markle saga.
I'm pretty sure that staff and the press were horribly racists to Meghan, but somehow I doubted that the Royals acted in that way. And after all, racism and prejudice are everywhere, whatever country you go.

But ever since I learned how your Top Institutions covered for Prince Andrew /Lord Mountbattan/ bishop Peter Ball and allow their abuses to continue for years,
.....
Unbelievable.... They just paid Virginia Giufre millions to shut her up, and now they're going on aristocratic tours...

Do you think any Royal, or anybody, wants to sit through a display of ethnic dancing by schoolchildren?

It is torture and should be outlawed. (Says Og who had to perform for their Majesties when a school child.)
