Florida bill is anti-solar. Wealthy Fossil fuel magnets lobby for dirty fuels.

My company is currently working on two huge solar projects in Florida.

They're conflating not supporting green with being anti-green.

You see with authoritarian control freaks, if you're not supporting them you're against them.

WillJ is a good little brown shirt.

I have no idea why sell-back per-kwh rates are being set by legislation. Seems idiotic to me.

the sunshine state is anti sunshine? whodda thunk it? actually, it's not the state, is it, just the shithead repugs and the greedy dirty energy barons

Nice...glad to hear it

Ps....my power went out today. Took my solar powerpack down the basement, plugged my instant hot water heater into it, then took a shower. No problem...took 1 minute.

One way to solve a whole.lot.of.energy needs.is give individual home owners incentives(not penalties) to find new and ingenious ways to utilize solar power and to sell it back to the grid on a one to one basis.

Legislators need to back this, not their wealthy Fossil fuel lobbyist.

Will DeSantis embrace clean energy or?

I think we all know the answer.
from the article:
“This bill is a nightmare for anyone who believes in energy freedom and the rights of people to choose the energy that works for them and their families. Net metering has helped over 100,000 Florida homeowners make that choice, and utilities are now banking on the state government to strip those rights away and pad their monopoly hold on electricity. Florida has seen its solar industry grow to employ 11,000 people and generate over $10 billion in economic activity. States that enact bad legislation like this will see much of that business growth disappear, and we’re urging Governor Desantis to veto the bill and maintain Florida’s place as a national energy leader. This is a simple choice between helping the monopolies and helping the people.” Will Giese, southeast regional director, Solar Energy Industries Association.

from the article:
One way or another, folks are going to move away from traditional sources of energy, especially, this common monopolistic approach that limits most folks to one or two energy providers where they live. I might get to the point with my solar system that I cancel my connection to the electric grid.

I'm sure the electric providers will come around as they see their market share and profits evaporate into the air.

Utilities are monopolies/oligopolies -- therefore, they're subject to very high level of regulation, when they are not outright publicly owned as they should be.

Yup.... Democrats who love doing that, are only going to be able to do it in a few blue shit holes by the end of the decade.

Why would they force electric companies to buy low-quality power at inflated prices?

It is not a matter of partisan policy, it is in the nature of electric power. No local economy will support more than one or two providers.

It is not a matter of partisan policy,
You don't think the many regulations of energy production and distribution in this country have anything to do with it you're simply unhinged from reality.

Why would they force electric companies to buy low-quality power at inflated prices?
It would not be forced. It's the opposite, this bill in Florida, like in many other locations in the USA is a penalty for folks connecting to the grid that also have solar. It's a disincentive, a penalty, to make electric customers think twice about going towards solar.

I can speak for myself....if I generate my own power and my electric company does the same....penalizes me via fees, charges or raising my rates because I have solar...I will dump them.

It's my choice....free markets right?

I think you got the force thing backwards Bud.

Previous bills mandated the utility pay connected customers 10 cents per kwh, and that is now changing if I read the bill right. Why is it right to force the utility to overpay you for your crummy power?

Power from inverters is garbage, and can cause all sorts of issues in electronics and capacitors.
I think you got this wrong as well....the new tech is 100% sin wave now. This tech is solid and is as good as (or better in my experience) than what happens with large electric providers. The energy from these units are just as good as what comes into the house and should be just as good going back into the grid. If greedy companies who want their monopolies would allow it.

We re all in it together here aren't we? .....chuckles, I know this answer.

It's an inverter, it's only an approximation to a sine wave. Put a scope on it and you'll see. And that shit fries capacitors and electronics.

Well, I will just have to disagree with you on this. I'll let you know when my electronics gets fried....nothing yet. I've seen the scope displays.

I have had plenty of fried computers and TV's at one of my buildings due to the electric company. Low voltage transformers get hit hard from the public utilities.
