Sandy Hook families announce $73 million settlement with Remington Arms in landmark agreement

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/02/15/remington-sandy-hook-settlement/

When the families of nine of the victims of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School began their lawsuit against the gunmaker of Bushmaster AR-15 style rifle, their goal was to spare other families the pain that had upended their own lives.

On Tuesday, the victims’ families marked a victory in that effort with the announcement of a $73 million settlement with the now-bankrupt Remington Arms, which manufactures the Bushmaster.

“They had the motivation to do whatever they could … so that other families — whether they are in a suburb or township or city — would not have to go through the kind of pain and the loss that they had,” Joshua Koskoff, an attorney for the families, said during a Tuesday news conference.

Don't think they were "ordered"... I believe Remington said hey....take this and drop the case....we are tired of fighting a case we can't win

Although Sandy Hook was horrible, and I say this with all due respect for the victims of this tragedy, the blame for this should fall solely on the gunman himself, not the gun maker.

It's like suing Budweiser for drunk driving deaths. An over-reach of justice. I do not agree with this in principle.

Last nail pounded into the coffin of a conspiracy theory. Yes, real children were killed.

I'm perfectly fine with holding corporations with dangerous products financially liable when they knowingly employ dangerous marketing strategies targeting young people(and stunted people) who are predisposed to immature / impulsive behavior.

They need to stop crafting their advertising to appeal to individuals with violent and/or addictive personality disorders.

Their products are dangerous enough as it is.

*nods*

I believe Remington filed for bankruptcy protection...it will be interesting to see if they pay any of their obligations

So their kid's lives were worth $73 million to the parents.

73 million things for other death peddlers to consider before cooking up their next sick advertising campaigns targeting the young and the weak minded.

Amirite???

I don't know if you are right or not. I don't recall having ever seen an advertisement for Remington. I'll defer to your advertising expertise.

Well put.

Perhaps in some of the obscure publications that litter waiting rooms.

But yeah, in most of the periodicals that people consume,
there are no ads and I think it's illegal for broadcast.

In short, claiming "deceptive advertising" is a red herring.

I think the bigger problem is our extreme reluctance
to identify and treat mental health issues in
deference to privacy/liberty concerns...

To paraphrase a comedian: People, guns don't kill people, people kill people!

Your lack of information on the Sandy Hook lawsuit that you were so cavalier about is only matched by your lack of curiosity.

A simple Google search on the matter would have solved your dilemma.

Amirite???

Yes, this is a great victory towards gun legislation and gun control measures that make sense.....just like what happened with tabaco back in the day. At a certain point, calling a duck a duck is more profitable then having to settle or lose lawsuit after lawsuit. This has opened the door now for that kind of pressure on gun makers.

Just a matter of time now where they themselves will embrace legislation that will protect the most important thing a gun manufacturer does(which is not defending the Constitution).

Making profits!

Authoritarian as ever ^^^ willJ hates civil rights. :D

Lol.... democracy, liberal values and what comes with that is common sense regulation.of guns.

Get yourself ready....we are coming for yours. 😜

Authoritarian as ever, as always.

You lot don't know enough about guns to regulate them, much less with any "common sense". You have nothing but an argument from personal incredulity fallacy (common sense argument) based entirely in fee fees. Just look at every violent crime ridden shit hole your team governs.

Pathetic. :D

You're not coming for shit, you don't have the legal authority much less the means or support to do so.

Sit down little Stalin Wannabe, you and the other comrades need to get out of moms basement before you get to Soviet these United States.

Lol ...you know it's coming. Money talks....this settlement is landmark!
And you got now where to run to....all other countries have civilized gun regulation. The USA has been backward for long enough.

Lol ...you know it's coming.

I don't live in a blue shithole, so no it's not. :)

Money talks....this settlement is landmark!

This settlement is going to get shit on and would only serve to deprive blue states of 2A rights, which is why it's going to get shit on.

And you got now where to run to....all other countries have civilized gun regulation. The USA has been backward for long enough.

They really don't, I've had an easier time getting guns in most other countries.

European shit holes aren't all other countries. Get a clue son.

And your hatred of civil rights, being the authoritarian that you are, doesn't make the USA backwards.

Owning a gun, in the way you do, is nothing more than a facist statement in fear based thinking....it doesn't give you any civil rights.

Government gives you civil rights via laws.

A gun doesn't give you freedom....laws in the land that you live give you freedom via stability and a common understanding of those laws that everyone abides by ...your notions disrupt this civility and undermines stability.

As we all know here...you are one hell of a fucked up individual.

It won't matter what state you live in....these lawsuits against gun manufacturers extend back to the manufacturer where ever they are....being in a "red" state as you say is meaningless.

Let us know when you decide to leave the "magic Kingdom" you live in 🍌🍌🍌🍌 brain

Ps- Remington headquarters is in North Carolina....chuckles.

Has nothing to do with fascism. You're just an idiot bringing up buzz words you don't understand again.

It doesn't give me any, it is one.

Government gives you civil rights via laws.

No, I have rights the government is forbidden from infringing upon them.

Get a remedial civics class you clearly don't understand how the USA works.

A gun doesn't give you freedom....

Yes it does.

laws in the land that you live give you freedom

No, they almost exclusively infringe on freedom.

You are a psychotic authoritarian.

As we all know here...you are one hell of a fucked up individual.

I'm not the little Stalin wannabe here.

Has nothing to do with coming for my guns.

And yea it does as blue states lose market access, again, not really anything I have to worry about.

Let us know when you decide to leave the "magic Kingdom" you live in 🍌🍌🍌🍌 brain

I'm not the one who thinks the USA is Venezuela, you're the only one living in an imaginary land.

What I find so redundant about the gun nuts like BoBo is exactly what you just said. Well Put!!

Here for example is an article about the RCMP clearing out some protesters with pictures of the firepower they seized. Take a peak....Canada is the 10th most armed country, and yes we have more than single shot .22's.....but we don't have "mass shooting events on a daily basis.

Why???
