Chuck Schumer renews calls for federal decriminalization of marijuana

Typical freedom-hating Dem!

NEW YORK — Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer renewed his calls on Friday for the federal decriminalization of marijuana, gathering some of his congressional colleagues in lower Manhattan to make his case after working to gain Republican support over the past several months.

“Change has been urgently needed for a long time,” Schumer said, highlighting the disproportionate impact marijuana laws have had on Black communities. “The good news is we’re on the edge of getting change, because the opinions throughout America are changing.”

Surveys in recent years have indicated a majority of Americans support legalizing the recreational use of pot. Last year, New York became the 15th state to legalize recreational use.

But congressional efforts to translate cross-party support into federal law have hit snags in the Senate.

The House passed a cannabis decriminalization bill late in 2020 on a mostly party-line vote. And in July, Schumer, D-N.Y., introduced draft legislation meant to dispense with cannabis’ classification under the Controlled Substances Act and to create a path for federal regulation.

Chuck Schumer's contribution to black history month

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer faced some online ridicule and mockery after he made a verifiably false claim about the historic racial makeup of the Supreme Court.

Schumer was assailing Republicans in a speech on the floor of the U.S. Senate when he claimed that the highest court in the land had only white male justices until 1981.

“Until 1981, this powerful body, the Supreme Court, was all white men. Imagine. America wasn’t all white men in 1981, or ever," Schumer said.

Critics of Schumer took to social media to blast him for erasing the historic career of Thurgood Marshall, who served on the Supreme Court for 24 years after being nominated by Democratic President Lyndon Johnson in 1967. Marshall was the first black American to serve on the Supreme Court.

One reason marijuana was outlawed in the 1920s was a perception that it was a specifically black drug.

Legalize it at the federal level and it will balance the budget and fill the Medicare coffers back up. The mom and pops are already pretty much fucked.

Or it could be legal for everyone and you (D)'eez could just NOT fuck mom and pops as hard as you can at every turn.....

NAH!!!!! You'll "regulate" it into the hands of like 3 corporations and legally fucking annihilate anyone who dares step up to your totalitarian market control. Because that's "COMMON SENSE" regulation, for the sake of regulating and then regulating some more.

Then you can shame Wal Mart and Amazon for 'destroying' the mom and pop operations. :D

California is already taxing and regulating legal weed to the point that people still buy the illegal stuff.

You're not balancing the budget with weed. Another revenue stream for congress, just means more money to waste on garbage.

Why give the state all that money??

For the price of a QP of the legal stuff you can get a fuckin' Lb of grandmas sun grown backyard Supa Sour Diesel.

YUUUUUP.... the government will just set it on fuckin' fire. :)

This all being said I love the idea of decriminalization.

Hypocrisy 101: BoBo's Situational Outrage.

What a difference a day makes!

Yesterday, BoBo lectured us loud 'n long about how federal law was sacrosanct, and that the states had no leeway whatsoever, as to the application and/or enforcement of the law.

Today, BoBo talks out of the other side of his mouth, lecturing us how federal law was one thing, but the states had the ultimate say in what laws were to be enforced and/or applied.

The reason?

Yesterday BoBo was lecturing us on Border control, a subject near and dear to his fascist, authoritarian side.

Today BoBo is babbling about federal drug laws, where his beloved marihuana is classified by law as a Schedule 1 drug (most addictive, similar to heroin), a subject near and dear to his so-called "liberal" side.

Why is there such a huge disconnect?

We know why! Cue the "but...but...open borders!" and "nuh uh!" pre=programmed responses. Extra points for the words "lying/lie/liar" and/or "racist"
