Reuters initially reported early Monday morning that a Japanese pharmaceutical company had found Ivermectin — an anti-parasitic drug that has been touted as a treatment for Covid but has not been approved by the FDA — effective against the virus in a Phase III trial.

The headline and lede of the original report, which like every Reuters story was syndicated on other major outlets around the world, read as follows:

Japan’s Kowa says ivermectin effective against omicron in phase III trial

Japanese trading and pharmaceutical company Kowa Co Ltd said on Monday anti-parasite drug ivermectin has been found effective for treating the omicron variant of COVID-19 in a Phase III trial.

In a correction, Reuters noted that the drug was not found effective in Phase III clinical trials, but had an “antiviral effect” against Omicron in “non-clinical research.”

A Reuters spokesperson acknowledged the error in a statement to Mediaite.

“The original Reuters story misstated that ivermectin was ‘effective’ against Omicron in Phase III clinical trials, which are conducted in humans,” the spokesperson said. “We corrected this to clarify it had an ‘antiviral effect’ against Omicron and it was shown in joint non-clinical research. After being made aware of the error, we corrected our story immediately.”
the point being, they already knew it showed antiviral properties in non-human trials of other covid variants but that effect didn't pan out in the human, clinical trials.

it's a real shame they fucked this up and then had to correct it, since Reuters is one of the most respected, trusted news outlets. Now we'll have idiots crowing 'see? ivermectin works, give us ivermectin!!!' and then 'see? the deep state made them retract that and lie to us...but it's too late, the troof is out there!!'

*chuckles*

I don't care if they want to self-dose on ivermectin...it's cheap, and works great on parasites. Worse case they die, no skin off my ass.

Problem is, (in Canada and I think the US) the drug regulators have not authorised it for use against COVID. No clinical studies have found it effective, and its use as a trial (observational) drug was tried in Canada, and the use was stopped due to lack of effectiveness in treating COVID.

So while they can bitch and moan ( till the next shine bright distraction shows up) they can only get it illegally, and no one is going to approve it for treating COVID, unless some clinical peer reviewed trials prove otherwise.

Another conspiracy to blame. One every other day. How can they keep them all straight? Oh....yea...it is the fake media again

Gee....the Fascist traitor keeps saying look at the Pfizer connection. So....where is this connection with Moderna?

Yeah, this isn't a report on Good Morning Peoria or something like that. There's no excuse for a company like Reuters to have someone on this story who didn't already understand this.

and despite their correction coming swiftly, the damage is done:

Hours after that correction was made, Rogan tweeted out the incorrect headline to his 8.1 million followers. Ben Shapiro retweeted the incorrect headline to his 3.7 million followers.

The report, from Reuters, was published on Monday morning and quickly corrected. Ivermectin was not found to be effective against Covid in humans in a trial, it was found to have an “antiviral effect” against Covid in a research setting, i.e. a test tube.
