Amy Schneider, formerly Thomas Schneider, who lost yesterday after 40 wins on Jeopardy, was born a male who had a sex change in 2016.

On multiple occasions Schneider brought up having a girlfriend.

Why would a man have a sex change to become a lesbian? It seems like an awful lot of trouble when he could just stay a dude and date women.

Most of these trans whatever are gay. It makes no rational sense to go through all that just to become a lesbian.

The other possibility is that Schneider's "girlfriend" is actually another tranny. That might make some sense.
