We now know that VP Pence was so unsettled by Trump’s attempt
to disrupt the electoral college vote certification that he consulted
Dan Quayle.

There’s now evidence that he tried to void the attempts to substitute fraudulent

McCarthy’s position was clear: He was nestling back into Trump’s embrace.

In late January, before the call with Trump was reported, McCarthy traveled
to Mar-a-Lago to pose for a photo with the former president.

McCarthy ended up pushing back against the sort of “fact-finding commission”
that he had initially advocated.

On Wednesday, just shy of one year since he proposed that commission,
the one that was formed, led by House Democrats, sent him a letter requesting
his testimony about his interactions with Trump and, of course, that phone call.
McCarthy quickly rejected the request. Once again, in the battle between Trump
and scandal, Trump won.

Senator (Moscow Mitch") McConnell leads his party’s caucus in a chamber where
Republican power has backstops. The filibuster gives the minority the power to block
legislation.

The allocation of two senators to every state, including low-population, heavily
Republican ones, makes it easier to hit a 50-vote margin — much less the 42 votes
needed to uphold a filibuster.


Rep. Kevin McCarthy, on the other hand, is aiming for the top job in the House,
should his party win more seats in this year’s midterms, which seems likely.

I don't know where you pulled that from, but not a single part of it is true. The ability to call the National Guard to the Capitol rests with the Capitol Police Board, which is made up of the House Sergeant at Arms, the Senate Sergeant at Arms and the Architect of the Capitol. The then-members of the board have disputed one another's stories on who decided not to call the Guard sooner and why, but all are agreed that Pelosi had nothing to do with it. The House Sergeant at Arms answers to the Speaker of the House, but he does not need her permission to call the Guard and there is no evidence whatsoever that he ever discussed the matter with her on 1/6/21. (Same with McConnell, to whom the Senate Sergeant at Arms answers.) When she was finally notified of the decision later in the afternoon, she supported it.

Trump could have sent in the Guard, and he wouldn't have needed Pelosi's permission or the mayor's; but the Department of Defense has no record of any such request. What they do have records of is a conversation he had with Miller the night before, where he wondered out loud how many troops might be needed (proof, if you ask me, that he had at least some expectation of what ultimately happened), but he did not make a request. It was Miller who ultimately did order the troops in, and he didn't need Pelosi's permission either - but he did in fact have her support.
