How did this ridiculous meme get started?! It's about on a level with the John Birch Society calling Eisenhower a Communist!

Yes, the Birch Society also called Mandela and anyone who supports him Communist/Socialist.

It's pure propaganda being regurgitated on Fox, OANN, NewsMax, Brietbart, all the way down to all the am radio stations.

It is fairly easy to do.....pick something and just repeat, repeat, repeat and some folks, a lot of folks will believe it.

CRT is another great example... doesn't exist anywhere and yet you cannot convince the brainwashed otherwise. It's also funny ..folks like Dud Pudsucker will gain nothing by believing it...and it just doesn't matter. It's exactly what an ideologue looks like.

Regarding which Pat Buchanan's American Conservative said, on Mandela's death:

But given the scale of the anti-Communist victory, wouldn’t it be more in tune with the moment for conservatives to be magnanimous, and say: you know, it’s entirely understandable why the ANC sought Communist support. Indeed, it’s entirely understandable why many groups fighting oppressive structures and regimes accepted or even sought the support of Soviet-backed groups during the Cold War. What looked like the most important moral question from the perspective of Washington would not have looked like the most important moral question from the perspective of Transkei, or any number of other places. So maybe, now that the Soviet Union is dead and buried, we should stop harping on ties to Communists as some kind of unforgivable sin, in this case and in general.

The high point for the American Communist Party was the presidential election of 1932, when the Communist Party candidate won 103,307 votes.

In the 1936 presidential election that declined to 79,315 votes.

In the United States there was never a remote chance that the United States would somehow "go Communist." The danger was of a nuclear war that would end civilization.

During the Cold War Republicans used the imaginary threat of Communism to discredit the Democrat Party, and the democratic left in general.

An important thing to remember is that there is no longer any Communist International, nor anything else that could fairly be characterized as an international Communist movement. The CCP only cares about China. It is not interested in stirring up Communist revolution anywhere else.

I think the part you're missing here is the campaign money being funnelled through Chinese owned or affiliated companies. That's how a country can influence politics without really being fingered

I'm sure those amounts must be trivial compared to the dark money that comes from American corporations.

It got started, dummy, with an assessment of the Intelligence community. It was the reason why Pompeo called a meeting with every US state governor a couple of years ago to warn them of the CCP infiltration into multiple levels of our society. Like in the education, local government, and business sectors. You of course were too busy spreading Marxist ideology, promoting wokeness, and theorizing about both from within clouds of Marijuana smoke.:D

Another definitive statement from the Oracle of the PB with absolutely nothing behind it but his feels.

You do realize you're talking about a Trump Cabinet official. Anything he says should be presumed false until proven true.

The CCP has purchased "tools" all over the US spectrum. From local politicians to some in high office. Univ. researchers, industrial CEO's, engineers and researchers across a vast array of targeted sectors.

Some of these "tools" don't even know they're tools. They are funded through a variety of organizations that receive funding from other organizations. Multiple 'cut-outs' in the business of purchasing influence and technological/industrial secrets.

Whereas the USSR was surreptitious (and cheap) having to recruit on ideological grounds, China uses brute force in the form of dollars. People that don't understand or believe this are not just naive, they are dangerous in their own right.

What reason do you have to believe any of this?

There are many tools in American politics. The CCP and the local billionaires pay the same rate for tool rental.

Yes,.spot on.

But Americans are not afraid of the PRC the way they were afraid of the USSR -- so, what makes the Pubs think this will work now?

This is an important point to consider. Of course the PRC might spend money for influence, but any government might do that, it has nothing to do with Communism. If Russia spends money in that way, is a person two or three steps down the stream a tool of Putin?

Here's what I have realized for a long time now. When I'm conversing with you I'm conversing with the most underinformed member on this board, and that is saying something. This is just one source, but it is the anti-Trump FBI Director, Chris Wray. I'd quote it but is too long. Read it and then shut the fuck up with your lies about the intentions of the CCP:
