If President Joe Biden’s disorderly and lethal Afghanistan withdrawal was the moment that fractured voters' regard for him, then his vicious Atlanta speech last week may be the moment that defines his presidency.

Speaking Tuesday at Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University, Biden uttered venomous, brutal accusations lacking factual basis. His shouting-in-the-wind delivery was inexplicable, and his decision to lash out at members of his own party — Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema — appears to have only strengthened their resolve not to give in to his demands.

Biden called those who disagree with his political views on legislation “domestic enemies.” He compared them to Confederate President Jefferson Davis and former Alabama Democratic Party Committeeman and ardent, violent segregationist Bull Connor. In American politics, that is about as divisive as one can get — at least he didn't mention Hitler.

The scope of Biden's fall from grace — from glib middle-class Pennsylvanian to venomous, lying politico who will say anything to please left-wing activists — has been staggering.

That's a lie. It was LBJ and then-Sen. Humphrey who shamed the Republicans into joining the good guys as opposed to sitting on the sidelines and letting the right-wing Southern Democrats filibuster the bill to death. The real divide was regional: Northern members of both parties voted overwhelmingly for it, Southern ones of both parties were almost unanimously against it. (Almost. A few Southern Democrats did vote yes; not a single Southern Republican did.) And the GOP nominee for president that year openly opposed the Civil Rights Act - and carried five Southern states for the first time since Reconstruction. Three guesses as to why.

Biden did not say Trump actually told them to riot. That would be the only way you could say he lied. You could argue that Biden exaggerated Trump's words and actions, or that he interpreted them unfairly - I think you'd be wrong, but you could - but he didn't say anything factually false.

He certainly whipped them into a major frenzy, and he knew or should have known that his rallies had a history of crossing the line from plain old bashing to outright hate, and he himself has a history of pining for the good old days where you could just beat the detractors up, and even offering to pay supporters' legal bills if they got arrested for doing so. Then again, as I just said in another thread, I don't think Trump intentionally encouraged them to riot, only because he never thinks anything through that clearly. But that doesn't mean Biden was wrong.

Not to mention, Whiteguide, everyone here knows Trump could have been caught on tape actually saying "I want you to go down there and raise hell in the Capitol" and you would just insist it hadn't happened because that's what you want to believe.
