Senator Ron Johnson is running for re-election

Good news for the GOP. He changed his mind after earlier saying this would be his last term. Wisconsin is a competitive state for Dems, but this definitely dampens their prospects. The party is already rallying behind him so there won’t be a bloody primary. He’ll cruise through the primaries and be in great shape for the General. The other side has 12 candidates and no clear favorite.

Politicians can survive [cough] "changing their mind" like this, but it helps to be in a fairly safe district or state. Wisconsin is purple enough that this is probably going to be an issue in a general election, provided the Democrats wind up running someone with political skill (by no means assured, obviously).


Johnson being unbelievably stupid and an enabler of the corrupt loser former president are probably not pluses either.

I'm not so sure about that. Wisconsin has a big Republican bench that could have nominated someone with a clean slate. Johnson does have a lot of money, but he also has a long history of incredibly stupid comments.
