good on yer, Michelle! Like Stacey Abrahms, getting the voters registered and voting in the mid-terms is the key

Former first lady Michelle Obama said in a letter on Sunday that a coalition of voting rights organizations would register more than a million new voters across the country in the run-up to this year’s midterm elections.

Obama, who founded When We All Vote, a campaign to register and organize voters, also said in the letter that the coalition would organize at least 100,000 Americans to contact their senators, urging them to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Election reform legislation is struggling to pass the Senate, as moderate Democrats are reluctant to change Senate rules and push it through.

Obama’s letter, which ran as an ad in the Sunday New York Times, comes at the start of a week when President Joe Biden will travel to Georgia to speak on what the administration views as Republican efforts to suppress the vote. Biden is expected to talk about his support for a filibuster carveout that would allow voting rights legislation to pass the Senate.

It's a shame this is even necessary. In the Information Age, voting registration could easily be made automatic and universal.

She was good on black'ish the other night. Hopefully she can start a movement like Rock the Vote.

With the entrenched two party system we have, many people feel that they have no voice.

You would still have to encourage people to actually get out and vote.
I'm cautiously optimistic that the Republicans' open push against that will trigger a backlash and cause higher than usual turnout on the left. As we saw in Georgia last year, it can be done.

That's very true. Midterm voter turnout tend to go downhill and that's when the other side likes to take advantage. If the Dems wants to defeat Trump-like republicans, they have to turn out big for this election.

Yes, and they'll have to accept that they're not getting everything they want right away, and Biden and Harris aren't perfect. Way too many left-of-center voters will sit on their hands if they don't have an option that checks all their boxes. I hope they've learned their lesson from 2016.
